Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Acid Reflux

Recommended Posts

:blushing:Going on 4 years with the band.. The last 6-8 months I have had major acid reflux.. I never had acid before the band. The only thing is to remove all Fluid. I have done this once already. Not sure what to do next. I have taken acid reducers sometimes it works sometimes it does not. Looking for advice. Also looking for a mentor... still stuggling with the food demons!!

Determined2010, I also have had issues with reflux an dhad all removed from my band for several months. I too am 4 years out. I recently chatted with another lady with the same issues, same time frame. WOW! I so thought I was all alone. Not that that makes it any better, but just to know that it's not me. I had my first adjustment 1-11-10 after 6 months unfilled, and so far so good. I have had a couple bouts of what I would call indegistion, that went away after a tums. And I charted it back to some spicy food i ate. I LOVE the spicy! But I really take it slower now. I try and get in al my Water and that seems to help. I'd be happy to buddy up with you and we can help encourage each other. Take care, Criss

Well I have an update. I went and had an upper GI on Monday and found out that I have a buldge. That is where the stomach before the band is getting bigger due to eating bread ( which I can't do) OR-- not filling full and eating and stretching out the stomach ( which I do). I found myself breathing through my meals to feel it "go down" and eat more.. I never felt full at 7.2 cc's. well it was bc the food was filling up in the boldge. My Dr has removed all of the Fluid, he is going to give me another xray in 30 days and see if that deflates the pouch. If not, its off to my 3rd surgery.. Yes my 3rd.. My 2nd was a slippage about 1.5 years ago. I have never found the sweat spot in all of these fills. I was either too much or too little. I never would have thought this would be so hard to wrap my head around. So now I am holding onto the hope that I will not gain in 30 days and believe in myself that perhaps I dont need the fill. Wish me luck!! Yes lets be mentors.. We need each other in all of this!!

I am sorry for all your troubles. Is it some comfort that there is a physical problem? I always think that figuring is out is 1/2 the battle. Hopefully, this will fix your reflux issues, and you can go on with life. For the 30 days unfilled staring you in the face, stare back! Don't let them win. Set a goal, make a plan and stick to it. A new goal that I am making fro February is to get in more exercise. I have been very busy with school, and not been able to do what I want and need to do. So I pledge to get out to walk or to the Y for at least 30 minutes, at least 3 times a week. I always have to remember that when I set a goal, to do it in small steps that are attainable!!!!! This I can do, no WILL do! You can make it thru this. Think about something you will do to help keep the weight down and let me know. I also find it helps when we know someone else is watching, (in a good way) It helps keep us accountable. Stay in touch and keep focused. Talk soon, Criss

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
