gdf18 2 Posted January 21, 2010 I have a bad flap and it's getting worse. Down to top of thights now. I'm suffering from almost constant yeast infections under the fold from side to side. Bad ones. So, I'm starting to think about surgery even though I'm still 30-40 pounds away. Does anyone know whether these constant infections make it the flap surgery and medical necessity? Any experience with this would be helpful to know. Thanks.
Sue Magoo 71 Posted January 21, 2010 Gwenn: Congratulations on your loss to date. I am very familiar with the "flap" that you talked about. I was able to get partial insurance coverage because of rashes that I had. The rashes were recurring and were very uncomfortable. Both my band doctor and the plastic surgeon had pictures of my rash when it was quite inflamed. The plastic surgeon submitted the pics along with a bunch of other paperwork to my insurer and I got about 1/3 coverage. I don't know the exact coverage because I don't know the entire procedure cost. It depends on your insurance too. You'll probably do best if you do have medical insurance that covers panniculectomy or abdominoplasty. Either way, go to a plastic surgeon that has worked with weight loss surgery patients. You may be able to get referrals from your doctor and/or from this website. Best wishes to you. I'm very happy that I got a tummy tuck! Sue
gdf18 2 Posted January 22, 2010 Darn....my husband offered to take photos and I said no. I'm going home to see how bad it is and start doing it every time I get an infection. Should have done it last week. By time I get to a doctor, I often have it back under control- I keep the meds at home. But now I'll track and date them. What I have done is continually gone to a doctor for it and that can all be documented. Thanks for the info and idea.
