Sleep Apnea

Recommended Posts

Well I did my sleep study last night and I now know I have severe sleep apnea. I just cant believe it. The news hit me hard and it still is. Honestly when I went in I wasnt prepared for the outcome because I was certain I didnt have any breathing problems. I have been crying for most of the day and Im feeling really down. I think I will research this some more and maybe I wont be so scared. I have a cpap sleep study again on the 26th. Im not looking forward to it I hate how uncomfortable I am with all those wires on and that goo in my hair but my tech was awesome. Anyone else who has sleep apnea?I could really use some support from someone who has gone or going through this. Thanks everyone

Sorry to hear about your outcome. I wish I could help more but I haven't gone for mine yet.

My husband has sleep apnea and he hated wearing the mask at first...but then he realized that he was no longer tired during the day and felt well rested in the morning. I guess jerking awake from not breathing doesn't make for a good night's sleep (sarcasm). Now, he won't go a single night without wearing the mask.

At least you know that once you drop the weight, the machine won't be needed. I know it's scary, but use the machine they give you - it'll keep you alive and breathing.

I was diagnosed with sleep apnea three years ago. I had no idea I had apnea until I woke up one night gasping for air and ended up having a panic attack. But it was all right in front of me. The snoring. The EXHAUSTION (which at the time I blamed on having a new baby). I was a mess. But I'm happy to report that I am sleeping perfectly all night long and feeling rested and happy all day long.

The sleep study had me anxious. I was sure I would be uncomfortable with all that stuff on me. And it certainly wasn't the best night of sleep I'd ever had (went in at 9pm, in bed by 10:30, discharged at 5am). But it wasn't as bad as I thought.

The mask took a few weeks to get used to. Mostly I didn't like the feeling of the air blowing into my nose and down into my lungs. The sensation of having my breath taken away took some getting used to. But after two weeks, I didn't even notice it anymore.

And the truth is this... I LOVE my mask now. Can't sleep without it. I am able to sleep in any position (side, stomach, face-down, whatever). My husband is also happier because I'm not snoring and gasping anymore.

But the most important thing is this... I'm finally sleeping. Its glorious. I had no idea how miserable sleep was for me until I was finally able to get a good nights' rest.

You'll do fine and I promise you'll be so much happier after you start sleeping again.

Thank you so much for sharing it really means alot. I've heard so many good things and now Im not so freaked out anymore. Im not looking forward to wearing the mask but I assume I will get used to it like everyone else. I will be doing a second sleep study with the cpap machine on Tuesday. So we shall se how it goes.

Ash I am so glad that you went for a study. I remember telling you in the chatroom before that you should go for a test. I am glad that you did.

I have had sleep apnea for 3 years now and sleep with a cpap. I stopped breathing 75 times during my test. I used to wake up with headaches, high blood pressure and I used to feel like I was totally stupid because I would forget things. I would also be very tired by the afternoon. Since I've been on my machine I feel much better.

Make sure that you use your Cpap even if it feels a bit uncomfortable, you will get used to wearing it. Now you are aware of what sleep apnea will do to you so you have to force yourself to use that mask. THe good thing is, with the lapband and losing the weight you probably won't have to wear it for that long.

My goal is to get off of this machine. In another 10lbs they want to pull me back in to re-evaluate me. I did take it off one night and my husband said I still snore so I know I'm not quiet ready yet.

Let that fear that you are feeling now, guide you in the direction of really using that Cpap when you get it. You will be fine.

My goal is to get off of the CPAP machine. Which is what you will do also. Eventually you should be able to get rid of that machine. I have 2 more pounds to go before I call my doctor for another sleep study to see if I am ready.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
