Do I need to quit my coffee habit?

Recommended Posts

I drink about 4 cups per day, and this week I have cut it to two with 32 oz of Water between cups. Am I going to have to cut it even more--I want to be prepared so I don't get that horrid headache!

You will probably need to check with your doctor, as they all seem to have different requirements... For example, mine does not require me to reduce my caffeine intake at all. I average 4-6 cups of pretty strong black coffee per day.

Mine doesn't allow me to have any caffeine, so it really is different for each dr. I just replaced my coffee with Decaf, and now I can't tell any difference.

You should talk to your Nut. Mine gave me some info about caffeine...it's a diuretic so all that Water your drinking to flush out fat is for not because it's not in your system long enough to filter anything due to the coffee/soda pop. Also caffeine is an appettite stimulate. OMG, right!

I live in the Seattle area and everyone jokes that our tap water has a triple shot. ;-)

I used to drink 3 pots of coffee a day by myself! No, seriously. I slowly got myself off of it and now I only drink Decaf and maybe once a day if that and no pop. Try to get off of it all together. You're half way there, you can do it!

My doctor gave me the "okay" to continue drinking caffeine, but I was drinking insane amounts before surgery. And no matter how hard I try to justify it, drinking mass amounts of caffeine is not healthy and could impede my weight loss. Now if you're one of those people that can drink it in moderation then more power to you - I'm not one of them. It's usually all or nothing with me.

I went cold turkey after surgery and was so focused on the healing/gas/nausea/etc. that I didn't even think about drinking it. The pain killers must have helped, because I never got a headache. That being said, I think what you're doing with the weening is a much better way to go about it, because I was a pretty bitchy my first week w/o the diet coke and coffee. Perhaps, if you slowly continue to ween you can avoid the headache altogether.

When I quit my pepsi habit, I started buying bottled Water with caffeine in it. That helped me avoid those dreaded caffeine headaches, they are bad.

That's what I did. I'm a coffee nut, Even my Protein Drinks are coffee flavored. I don't even notice the lack of caffeine anymore.

I was told no coffee--it's not just the caffeine that is an issue (in fact, it's not the main issue at all); it's the acids in coffee that can be irritating to a new pouch. So, for 6 months, no coffee.< /p>

I tapered off caffeine during my two-week preop diet. I'd done away with coffee by then, but still had my diet soda thing to deal with (carbonation is also a no-no). By the time I hit the OR, I was detoxed--and it was WAY easier than I thought it would be.

Previous attempts were a nightmare, with the headaches. But gradually withdrawing a caffeinated drink a day did the trick very nicely.
