Lap Band questions

Recommended Posts

I am really considering lap band and I am needing some pro's and con's...I have never had surgery! And I like to eat! I am needing feedback on if I need to do this or not! I am 28 and about 214, 5'6...In 2000 when I graduated I was @150lbs. and active in 3 different sports! Well I hate to exercise, and I am thinking that if I have the surgery it will get me over this hump and give me the incentive to want to exercise!?!?!? Those of you that have had Lap Band please help! Kinda scared about the disadvantages!

This is such a general question--can you come up with anything specific we can answer for you? Otherwise, I advise you to read blogs and read the message board here. You'll get a lot of information that way

Well, just having the lap band seems to be enough incentive for some people to eat less and exercise. Only you know will know whether it's enough for you. However, I *HATE* to exercise and having a band put in me didn't give me any more incentive to do so.

Keep in mind that if you played three sports, you were burning a lot of calories. You might be horrified at how much time you have to spend in a gym to burn that same number of calories. A band helps in that it limits the number of calories you can eat at one sitting. It won't stop you from grazing all day or eating slider foods (and many sweets are slider foods).

Be aware that there is significant hunger involved. It takes most people a few fills to feel they are satisfied with less food.< /p>

The actual surgery was a piece of cake for me. Only asked for pain meds in the hospital once. Took the perkeset I was sent home with occasionly. I found the worst pain was when moving around a lot.

The band is a great tool (I've lost 32 pounds in 2 months) but you still have to do the work. I count calories and protien grams. I log everything I eat everyday. Hope this helps in making such a big descision!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
