Have my consult tonight - SO excited!!!

Recommended Posts

I leave in a few hours for my consult and cannot wait. I have researched the surgery, called my insurance, etc. I meet all of their criteria, so now it's the waiting game I think. Plus, the psych eval I guess.

I just really want to get started on the next phase of my life. I know that probably sounds silly but I feel like I'm "on deck" or something - that I'm waiting to go up. Did anyone else feel that way once you made the decision to have surgery?

How long after your consult did it take to get your surgery scheduled? Were there a lot of pre-op testing? Would love to hear of your experiences.

Congratulations on taking this step for your health and welfare! I had my consult on November 7, 2009...easy, quick discussion with the doctor there and a brief explanation of the process. On November 11, 2009 I went in for my endoscopy, blood work and ultrasound - all good! From there, I had a psych evaluation by phone and had a phone conference with their nutritionist to go over my pre- and post-op diet. I also had to do a cardiac stress test at my primary care physician because of how obese I am...that was done right before Thanksgiving. Finally, ALL of those documents were sent in to my insurance about mid-December, and I received a phone call on December 30, 2009 to schedule my surgery for January 7, 2010!

My surgery was outpatient, so I was at the actual hospital from noon to 6:30pm. If you'd like to read more about my experience, feel free to click my blog below...I've tried to be pretty detailed in logging it all. Best of luck to you  - I'm still stoked I did it!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
