Calling all DWF area banders!!!! Please Help..

My name is Jade 28 coming in from southwest Colorado..but don't get me wrong, I'm a southern girl from Bama:)

I am set for surgery on the 12th of Feb  But my flight arrives Wed. 10th.

Any friendly banders out there interested in meeting up and talking with me while I am in town pre-op?. I don't know the area at all and would hate to be stuck in a hotel room.

(: drinks on me:)

No but for real i would really love some calming techniques for surgery, encouragement, and any personal experiences you might find helpful. Thanks so much..

Jade, I'm being banded by Dr. Smith on 1/27. How come you are coming here to get the surgery instead of having it closer to home?

Well for one I am self pay and the price is unbeatable!! Dr Smith also does surgery in Abq whch is only a 3hr ish drive away from Durango, but for an extra 5G's. So i opted to fly down to the great state of Texas:)

Have you already had a few visits with nurses etc.? Seen the doc yet? How is you pre op diet going? Any suggestions? love to keep in touch with ya!! Tell me how is goes. Wish you luck with you up coming surgery!

That's excellent! I'm self pay too, so I get that. I have met with the office twice - introductions & pre-op/nutritionist appt. I met the doc at the introduction for about 10 minutes. He was very nice and got me fired up to move forward.

This is day #8 of my preop diet. I hit a bit of a wall today and I'm so sick of smoothies & pudding, but I know that I can do another week. The Soup is definitely the highlight of my day! I have been swapping out Jello, pudding & popsicles as I get hungry. I eat something small about every 45 minutes which seems to really help my hunger.

Good luck to you too! I will send you a private message later with my email address so we can keep in touch a little easier.

It is so cool that we have the same doctor:smile2: You will have to tell me all about everything!!! I know the pre-op diet does not look fun at all, but im ready for it. I bought and elliptical for the house and have tried out some Protein shakes. yuck!!! i hear ya.

Well i have experimented a little and i found that frozen fruit (ur fav) mixed with 1/2 n 1/2 PureApple juice and Water with the Alive Protein mix (pea and rice) taste actually pretty good. just found combo yesterday.. Just a day at a time.. you can get through it!! Im sure i will be hurtin after week to..lol..

I'm glad Dr. Smith got you excited and seems genuine.. I have mostly spoken with Heather.. know her? First apt is 2-11-10. yay!!

I haven't been exercising much because although I'm not super tired, I really don't think I could pump myself up to work out. I am trying to be active though. I used to Jazzercise (for 6 years) but I stopped around Thanksgiving. I called and put a two month hold on the fee and I start back 3/1. I guess I'm doing phases...maybe I'm a wimp!

I haven't been successful making my own smoothies, but I keep trying. I will definitely try this. I have been drinking ready made & smoothie King Gladiators.

I've spoken with Heather but only over the phone. Susie, the nurse, is extremely nice. I really like her. Are you going to meet with the nutritionist when you are here? I think her name is Sharon?

I have to get my labs done tomorrow morning and pick up my meds at the pharmacy. Other than that, I just have to see through the 2nd week of the pre-op diet and I'm good to go!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
