Well I went to see my surgeon today hoping that I was going get a fill, well that didn't happen once again he told me I was doing so well and that he didn't see a need for a fill at this time. Which is very frustrating!!! Has this happen to anyone else? I guess the good news that I lost 9lbs since the 6 weeks I last seen him so that's what I'm holdong onto as motivation.

How is your restriction level? 9 lbs is 6 weeks is fantastic! But if you are starving to do it...

My surgeon and I always have a discussion about how much I can eat before we agree on a fill. I might want more fill than he is willing to give. But if your physical hunger is under control, or perhaps you are having stuck episodes from time to time, he may be reluctant to fill you at this time. When you lose more you might have less restriction and your rate of loss will slow. He might then be willing to give you a fill.

There are many factors that go into getting a fill.

Thanks for the reply! No I'm not starving but I eat what I'm suppose to eat so I guess i should be happy that I'm not gaining and that I'm actually losing. I'm going to stay positive.

My weight has been stable for a while now, but when I was actively losing I lost less than a pound a week on average.

My surgeon told me to expect 1 to 2 lbs per week. So you are averaging 1.5 per week. That is fabulous! If you are not starving, that is even better! You don't say if you have had any fills yet. Maybe you are one of the few who needs very little fill to be sucsessful.

I have been overfilled and that is no fun, so don't be in a huge hurry to get fills if you don't need them. Keep up the good work and when the weight loss slows or you are more hungry, then it is time to get a fill.

Best wishes on the journey!

I went for my 5th fill last week and b/c I had lost 9.5 lbs in four weeks, she would not do another one. She said that she was afraid that she would block me too much and to come back in six weeks. I presently have 7.5ccs in my 11cc band. Since I am having some minor stuck episodes, I am alright with decision after thinking about it. We'll see what six weeks will bring.

I just got my first fill yesterday. My surgeon filled me with 3 ccs during surgery and I was doing well with that for the last 3 months, but I'm only averaging 1 lb per week and I feel like I can do better, so I asked the NP to give me a fill to see how it goes. She only gave me .5ccs because she said she thought that I was doing well. We'll see how I do! I'm not sure if it will make much difference or not, I'm still drinking liquids and eating soft foods. I went in for my month follow-up from my first fill. I lost 24# in a month. He was not going to give me a fill, but we talked. I mean really talked. I explained that I didn't want to have vomiting and I wanted to be able to go to dinner or eat a meal with family without excusing myself! Too tight would not work for me. I explained that I was "dieting" had no stuck episodes BUT I was eating every 2 hours because I was hungry and my body was telling me it was hungry. I am also exercising 5 out of 7 days. I couod still gulp Water and eat 6 oz of Protein at dinner and 1 full cup of veggies! I have eliminated added sugar anbd most all carbs....He agreed to .75. I have been on liquids allday with no problem and had Soup for dinner. I was full after 3/4 cup. I am looking forward to having this be my "sweet spot"!

If you are hungry and able to eat to excess and struggling not to do so, you do not have restriction and I'd call them up and *tell* them you want a fill.

If you have restriction, then you don't need a fill.

Only you know whether you have restriction and only you can determine whether or not you need a fill.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
