I've been reading a lot and seeing that a lot of people end up with loose skin. Many opt for tummy tucks and what not. I don't want that to happen so I've been searching for things that might help prevent that from happening. I read that exfoliating really good and using a good lotion all over can help. I looked at some lotions today and found Nivea had one that contains CO-Q10. It says it's supposed to be great at tightening up loose skin. I then thought, "Hey, I wonder if theres a supplement of CO Q-10 you can take" and low and behold there is! I read about it and it's great for your heart, and skin and even weight loss! So I've decided to start it now (I haven't had surgery yet) and once I do have my surgery, I'll start the lotion too. It's worth a try right?? Has anyone else heard of this? Or have any other ideas to help prevent loose skin, besides exercise and loosing slow. (Which I fully plan on doing)

I think a lot of it has to do with your age, genetics, and how much you have to lose. If you have a lot of weight to lose, I seriously doubt supplements or creams (especially over the counter) will do much to help.

I am down about 60 lbs. My stomach looks great. No Tummy Tuck needed. My arms on the other hand! Well, I have always carried extra weight in my upper arms (Thanks, Mom!) They could really use a nip/tuck. But it would be purely cosmetic, and I am unwilling to pay for that, so I won't be wearing tank tops any time soon.

Just my thoughts...

There are many products which claim to tighten skin, however their results are minimal. Surgery is an option in extreme cases.

  • Nourish your skin and encourage it's elasticity. Exfoliate your skin daily to encourage removal of dead skin cells. Doing this each day will stimulate your skin's circulation which should help in tightening skin up.
  • Eating raw food such as cucumber, Tomato, olives and coconut can mark an improvement in your skin's elasticity.
  • Aloe vera extract, soy Protein and yeast extract can improve your skin's elasticity by increasing your body's production of elastin and collagen. It not only tightens your skin but your skin's natural defenses as well.

Tummy Tuck/ Abdominoplasty is also a good option

Abdominoplasty, or "tummy tuck" is a surgical procedure involving the removal of excess skin and fat from the abdomen and tightening the abdominal muscle wall. The procedure can make a dramatic reduction in the appearance of the abdomen.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
