twopoint0 0 Posted January 19, 2010 I'm wondering if anyone would share their experience regarding the follow-up appointment they had one month after surgery. I am getting anxious because I lost a significant amount of weight in the week leading up to the surgery and the two weeks after as I was taking in mostly liquids and very few calories those weeks. I have definitely kept portions much smaller for the most part, but I still find myself hungry (I call it "real meal" hungry) at least once a day. For example, I can eat an egg or a Protein Shake for Breakfast and a can of tuna for lunch, but by dinner I'm having a harder time controlling portions. With this pattern I've put on most of the initial weight I lost while I was on liquids. I'm only down a net of 2 pounds. My doctor doesn't put anything in the band until 2 months out from surgery. I know weightloss is supposed to be slow and steady, but I'm kinda worried that they will be condescending about such a small number. I'm also concerned about having another month where I'm not supposed to eat more than 1/2 a cup of food 3 times a day with no snacking when the band hasn't been restricted at all yet. At any rate, I'd love to hear from anyone willing to share their experience.
mom2girls 1 Posted January 20, 2010 It really depends on your doctor and his staff. My doctor has been nothing but encouraging, even with weight gain. He is also very conservative on fills, i did not get my first until 3 mths post op and it was just 2cc's and it has done nothing but he wants me to get used to eating my portions and chewing that is why he prefers to be conservative. They doctors are they to help you win this battle so hopefully they will stay positive with you.

JeweI 2 Posted January 20, 2010 I am having the same probloem at night. I am getting hungry about 4 in the afternoon and don't eat dinner till 7 when my family gets home. I pushed back my lunch time till 1:30 or 2:00 to try to make it till dinner.< /p> My doc was not happy that I had only lost a little bit of weight on my first week post op visit. He asked me "Is it fair to say you screwed up?". I had blown it. I made some really milky mashed potatoes a couple times and it slowed my weight loss. We talked about it frankly but respectfully. Just remember you are both adults and you have the same goal. After the discussion with my doc he told me how much weight he expected me to lose by my next visit. I think that was great. It gives me an idea of where I should be. He also told me not to expect this to be a perfect journey, just don't give up. We will have some missed goals sometimes. What we are after is the end result. Don't fret. Good luck!
Cocoabean 430 Posted January 20, 2010 My surgeon told me to not be surprised if I gained during the post-op phase. He said it can happen. While the intent is not to eat to our hearts content, we also do not have restriction at this point, so the tool we had installed is not helping us. Willpower is the only thing working for you at this point. If we could live on one egg for breakfast a can of tuna for lunch and then waiting for dinner we would not have needed surgery. If that were all I ate in a day, I'd be starving by dinner time, and I have restriction. Also, what is your doctor's definition of snacking? My doctor does not want me snacking either. But for him that means I am not to brainlessly eat between meals. I can have planned foods between meals that fit into my program. When I heard no snacking, I thought it meant no eating between meals, but not so. I look at the liquid phase as a crash diet. When people go off of crash diets, they often gain weight when returning to "normal" foods. Keep practicing the Portion Control, but know that we are not perfect. Fills will go a long way to helping you manage the portions! This is a long haul journey. Best wishes.
