Spring into March 2010 Bandsters

Four more days!!! I am down 20lbs so far on my pre-op diet!!!
Hiya guys... Its been a few days... I was banded around 8am or so on Friday..Got to the hospital at 5:30am and Remember heading to surgery at 7:30am.. I remember being in my room around Noon, Dr Urbandt was awesome, so friendly and calming too.. He told my Mom and Dad that surgery took longer due to the fact I had really strong ABS that took longer to get into.

I was in a great amount of pain, I honestly didnt think it would be this painfully, I was up and moving around 2pm friday, I wasnt allowed to drink until Saturday AM, until had a gastric View Test. They were going to keep me another night due to the amount of pain I was in and not being able to keep anything done, But I really wanted to go home so They let me go at 5pm yesterday, I stayed at my Folks Hotel, and now I am now at my own home and bed

Still is a good amount of pain  Just trying to walk and sip, walk and sip...

Glad you are home now!!!

Im sorry you had a such a hard time the first days. Take the pain killers....dont even think about it..just take them.

I also had a hard time the first day. I was throwing up after waking up and taking a few sips...that was the worst!!! Once they took out some air..I felt horrible but after that I began to feel slightely better...but my blood pressure was too high and they wouldnt let me leave until it came down..so i did have to stay another night.

It did get better...It will for you as well too. It might not seem so now...but it will. Give it three days....sip and walk like you said...and dont be scared to take the pain killers they really do help. Every day you will start to feel better...after a week...you will not feel the pain or the gas as much...just do whatever the doctor says and drink those Protein Drinks, its really important for nutrition and healing.

Will you be on mushies or liquids this week??

Dont overdo..and try to get that 64oz of liquid in....you know the breakdown right??

64oz..and 40 to 60 mg of Protein. Thats 15x3 drinks of whatever a day...sip, sip sip.

Hugs and kisses your way....you did it..the worst is behind....now its just going forward!!

Its worth it!!! I lost 16 pds the first week...and only after the week..did I say okay so far it was worth it......

I hope it will be that way for you.

have a great night feel good,

Jodi

OMG! Very small world! I grew up in Coram. I was born at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson. I also lived in Florida for 5 years  I've been back here for almost 12 years. I lived in Orlando and I miss the warm Florida weather :tongue2:

Yes' date=' we'll def have to meet up!

My husband and I moved to Yaphank this past August. I like it. It's pretty quiet but there's no 7-11! lol

Oh! My cousin, who lives in Victoria B.C. was banded by Dr. Ortiz in Mexico in August. Is that who your surgeon is?[/quote']

Amy....I see you also live in LI but havent heard of Yaphank. I live in the five towns. Cedarhurst. Are you familiar with this area? We spend weekends in summer in FI.

Not sure where you are in comparison. Who did you use for banding? I used Dr. Holover with LI Bariatric with Dr. Holover and Dr. Garber..who did you use?

We are leaving for Mexico today for my surgery on Wednesday! Good luck AMY...I'll be thinking about you girl!

Im glad everyone is doing well. I am a little antsy to see what is going on weight wise. I do not have a scale at home, so I will be waiting till 4/14 when my first fill appt is to find out.

I have been doing well, three weeks post op tomorrow. My insicions are almost all scabbed off. and they honestly dont look to bad. I am glad though that some of my clothes are not as tight as they use to be.

Sounds like everyone banded so far this month is doing well. I can't wait. 4 more days!!! This week can't go by fast enough.

I saw an earlier post where someone had said co-workers or friends were giving them a hard time about getting banded. My wife and I were at a bar mitzvah this weekend where all of our friends are in attendance. I would have to say that for the most part, all of them were very supportive. One of my friends said "so you decided to do this crazy thing, huh?" I was like, yes and it's not crazy. It's not like I made a rash decision. I researched this for over a year before making my decision. Besides, this is about me and what works for me. Jeez, I wanted to smack her in head! Funny thing is, so many of in our circle of friends are dieting. They just don't realize that 9 out of 10 people that diet and take off the weight will gain it back because as soon as they stop dieting, they go back to their old eating habits. I know. I've been there many many times before. We "bandsters" are using a tool that will help us control our appetities and make lifestyle changes that will stick.

I am so excited about getting banded. I wish it was Friday already.

Hi everyone! I'm home. Had my surgery this morning with Dr. Trace Curry. I had a hernia that they had to repair, so I got a little more stomach gas they said. I have to say, that is the worst part of the whole thing so far. My port incision is a bit sore but not unbearable.

I hate to be TMI, but I have never prayed so hard to fart in my entire life! :tt1: I have a heating pad and a thermacare on my shoulder trying to break it up and keep getting up and walking around. The walking isn't bad, either. Just that darn gas! :o

The gas was the same for me, that was where most of my pain came from. Like you I dont think I ever prayed so much to relieve myself. I did let out a few burps but that did absolutely nothing.

Gald you are home and doing well. my Dr said I was the last of his band patients to stay overnight. I told him thanks I didnt want to stay over night. I was also his last to have the swallow test bright and early the next morning.

Jodi, I do like not having a scale at home, but sometimes I would like to know how I am doing. I would be afraid to have one at home for the fact that i would probably be on it everyday as well. I would just like to know my progress so far. I can tell I am slimming out, I just dont believe it. I have been stuck here for so long...

Well tomorrow is my day. I have to be at the surgery center at 6:00 am and surgery is at 7:30 am. Today is all Clear Liquids which doesn't seem to be bothering me much....yet. I am sure I will be ready for mushies come Sunday. I only have to do a clear diet for 1 day before surgery and 3 days after. I have a question for all of you who have already been banded. My daughter has a 2 game softball tournament on Sunday and I was wondering how you were feeling 3 to 4 days out. Do you think you could have gone to a softball tournament for the day or is that pushing it?

Everyone is different. I was sitting in the car being lost a few hours 4 days after surgery I was fine in the car. My husbands best friends grandmother passed and we went to her wake and funeral. It was an all day ordeal and we were out and about and I was fine. It was also 1 hr and a half away too. The Day I went home from surgery I was out an about as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
