questions about I can change diet

Recommended Posts

My health insurance (Tufts) requires a person to do the I can change diet for 6 months before surgery. Has anyone done this? What does it consist of? Do you know why you must complete it before having the surgery? Any information would be greatly appreciated. :(

I have never heard of this diet before. Since your insurance company requires it, they should be able to help you find it. Good luck and let me know what it is. I thought, like most of us, I had heard/tried almost every diet there was prior to banding.

My insurance required a diet plan of 6months prior to surgery so I know how you feel. My doctor told me that it was because they need to see that you are willing to start changing your eating habits prior to having this surgery. Remember: This is a lifestyle change, not just a get skinny quick plan.

Hope this helps you and good luck!

Thank you for your response. I hate the idea of waiting 6 months to prove I am serious while I'm so ready now, but I guess I'll deal with it. I have to keep reminding myself that I've got to do this to get what I want...a new me!

It's really not a diet, but a way to learn healthier habits. You are not required to lose weight on this. I have spoken to my health coach twice. In the meantime, I am getting what I need to get done with the doctor, nutritionist, etc... Unfortunately, there is no way out of this!!! I wish there was!! The clock starts ticking with the first phone call with the health coach- So I could be elegible for the surgery by the end of July.

Good luck!!!

My friend's insurance has the exact same thing ( I Can Change Diet)just be aware that the six months will not start until you acquire thier insurance form and your doctor fills it out, signs it and returns it to them and if you lose enough weight that your BMI falls below what is requred they may not authorize the surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
