Post Surgery Motorcycle Ride

Recommended Posts

My surgery is scheduled for Feb. 25th. I have a 400 mi. motorcycle ride planned for 7 days after my surgery. Should I be concerned that I won't be able to handle it?

I was riding 7 days post op. The only thing that was uncomfortable was my port. It is right above my belly button and my pants button was pushing on it. I just pulled my pants up high so they weren't touching and climbed on. It was a great ride but not 400 miles more like 150. I think you could do it. As long as your off pain meds and I was by then.

Hi,

I love to ride too. I was banded on the 13th, as of today, although I have not been on pain meds since the 15th, I would not be anywhere near ready for a long ride. I think you should cancel your plans. Although my pain level is just soreness my strength is not what I expected. I was winded during my shower this morning. You can't afford a mistake on a bike.

I agree with Bree and was banded the same day. There is NO way I could go on a ride so soon. Keep in mind, it's not typical, however complications do happen. I had an allergic reaction to the anethesia and the liquid pain meds. I'm off all of them right now, but couldn't ride for anything.

I don't ride, would never ride, so my advice is probably not going to be taken seriously, but your body needs 6 weeks to heal inside under normal circumstances. Since you can't guarantee that you won't become a flying projectile off that bike, hit any potholes, ride over rough terrain, have to abruptly serve so a car doesn't hit you, etc. etc, I would advise you to stay at home this time. Your health & interior body healing should be your priority. Please rethink your choices.

This advice, for what it is worth, comes from a retired nurse that has had to take care of too many patients that became flying projectiles.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
