Gas-X Strips for Post-Op Shoulder Pain?

Recommended Posts

Hey Everyone,

I keep reading about using gas-x strips for the post-op shoulder pain due to the gas used to pump up the abdomen during surgery.

I am curious how these would help, as they are designed to help gas inside the stomach not outside the stomach?

I am 2 years post-op, so my question is theoretical at this point for me. But I cannot see how something for the digestive system would work for that pain. (Obviously I did not try them :()

Thanks!

I wondered the same thing, but bought some anyway. I tried them and they didn't work for me. Really, the only things that helped was walking (to work it out of my system) and a heating pad (for when I'd get an intense pain).

I am almost two weeks post-op. I bought the strips on my way home from the hospital and the box is gone. Although I did walk quite a bit and drank a lot of Water, I had minimal gas pains...I only had the gas "release" going on during days 2 and 3 post-op, but I've been fine! I don't know whether to attribute the lack of gas pain to the strips, everything else I did...or I was just lucky. Either way, I used them.

I used them per doctor's instructions. I was sick with a respiratory virus and wasn't able to walk too much for the first week. SO, I think they helped me. However, you do have to follow the instructions on the box in order for them to work properly.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
