Where do you buy your food/nutritional supplements?

Recommended Posts

I am getting ready to have the band put back in and am way more prepared this second time around. I live in a very small area with not a lot of options for shopping, but where do/did you buy your food/nutritional supplements during your liqued and soft food stages? My doctor sells from his office, but I was wondering if there were other places/stores that are good to shop at.

Also, what was/is your favorite Protein during these two stages? I want to stock up!

I originally got my Protein from GNC but have switched over to Bariatriceating.com - They actually have an unflavored Protein that is unscented! I have an issue with a nasty smelling item I'm supposed to eat a bunch of... yuck!

My last order was placed on Monday, I had surgery on Wednesday and they were delivered on Thursday. :(

I actually buy my Protein Shake mix in Target. I use the Pure Protein brand and I get a big jug for $18. I am fortunate that I live local to the Bariatric Eating store, so I can go there if I want to buy stuff.. I even know one of the girls who works there... great bunch of ladies that run the store... and the recipes on the website by the way, GREAT!!

I get my Protein Shakes from Wal-Mart. I love the EAS Advantage carb-control shakes. strawberry is my favorite. I also like the muscle milk light vanilla cream shakes. They are a little more pricey buying them ready to drink rather than the powder, but I can't stomach any of the Protein powders.< /p>

I get all my Protein from bariatriceating.com. Their Inspire line is outstanding.

My surgeon offers bariatric Vitamins, but I like Bariatric Advantage chewable supplements better--my only "stuck" incident involved a pill, so I'd rather chomp mine up.

I am fortunate that I live local to the Bariatriceating store. As a matter of fact, one of the girls came to one of my support group meetings last year and they brought samples. They did bring the Believe products. I am not a coffee drinker, but I did try the cappacuino (SP?) and it was actually good... the good thing about the store is that you can go in and they will allow you to sample the products.

Has anyone tried the believe coffee like drinks from bariatriceating.com ??? Just wondering if they are any good

My trainer has a Protein Powder that has 56 grams of Protein per serving. I got it from the Health Spot but you can get it from www.oznutrition.com. It tastes really good too. I also purchased a whole food Vitamin from the Health Spot called "New Chapter supplements for Women" New Chapter. They also have them for Men. I also buy their fish oil. I have NO trouble taking any of these products.

I think the Believes are good, but prefer their Inspire (powdered) line to their ready-to-drinks. As good as BElieve is, there still lingers a bit of that proteiny taste/smell.

If you don't live near a BE store, the shipping of the BElieves can be tricky--they're packed in glass, and in wintertime, freezing can cause breakage. Plus, they're pricier to ship than the pouches of powder.

The Inspire line (including the PURE unflavored whey Protein isolate, which is GREAT--can be added to anything) really lacks ANY trace of the baby-formula-ish proteiny taste/smell.

The Dutch chocolate Cake Protein Powder mixed with Almond Breeze? As good as any cocoa you'll ever find. The Pom Razz Sangria in a bottle of Water with Crystal Light lemonade is delicious, too. (Other flavors are great, too, but these are my go-tos these days.)

I am also about to be banded, several of my friends have either been banded or by-passed and we have started ordering food from Bandtastic Meals. They did a tasting at our support group meeting last month, it was fabulous food and portion controlled for weight loss surgery patients on our special diets. Because of that tasting we have been doing the meals for a month and we have all seen a steady loss of weight. As for supplements I go to my local health food store, they have a specialist she helps me stay on a good course of supplements that fit my special needs. Supplement are so individual that you really need to talk to a specialist.

CostCo has " Premier" brand shakes 30 g Protein, 1 g sugar, cal 160, 11oz. I have only found them in chocolate, they also have the powder mix and bars. The cost was $37.00 for 18 shakes. I chose for the high protein.. the most I have found in a shake. :tongue_smilie:

These shakes are by far my favorite. I have only found them in chocolate as well. But here in Washington state, they sell for 23.99! Wow, what a difference. I'd still buy them at $37, though. They are THAT GOOD!

My surgeon's office sells shakes but I am looking to try others. I ordered a sampler pack of "Unjury" which got good reviews. I also tried from Protein "Shots" (Little Liquid Protein packed items. Low cal and high protein 50g or protein per). They taste horrible but if you are tired of drinking shakes all the time, they were pretty good.

Anyone try the Unjury protein products?

we have started ordering food from Bandtastic Meals.

They sent a sampling to my surgeon's office, too. I only tasted a tiny bit of one dessert (I was fresh postop), but it was delicious. The staff raved about all of the offerings.

I just placed my first order (just a bunch of Entrees to grab when I am in a hurry; I haven't yet added veggies and starches back into my diet). I'm very much looking forward to getting them.

The chef from Bandtastic will be leading one of our upcoming support groups--can't wait!

I have tried many many different Protein Shakes and such. Everyone's taste buds will be different, so it's hit and miss. I tried the Unjury samples, but did not like them quite as much as the nectar samples. Most of the good nectar ones get mixed with Water and are fruity. After I found a couple flavors I liked I did a google search and found the place with the lowest price + shipping. I got the Nectar variety sample pack from www.si03.com The ones I ordered from another site were "roadside lemonaide" and "crystal sky". They have some interesting flavors. The apple tastes like green apple jolly ranchers. For the ready to drink shakes I like Atkins vanilla. I have a couple friends that have had by-pass and lapband. They like Isopure zero carb banana from GNC.< /p>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
