My preop diet was 2 weeks long and consisted of 2 Protein shakes a day and one meal of 4 oz. lean Protein and 1/2 cup nonstarchy vegetable. I could choose the brand, as long as its nutritional info fell within certain parameters; I used INSPIRE brand available at bariatriceating.com.

I felt fine during this diet, albeit hungry at times. There were a couple of times I allowed myself solid protein instead of a shake (in other words, had two protein meals in a day)---but I made sure that I stayed within the same parameters that I was given for the nutritional content of the shakes.< /p>

I did not become dizzy, nor did I lose a tremendous amount of weight. (I think I lost 8 pounds, but this is partly because I eliminated refined carbs from my diet years ago; I just didn't get that dramatic, "Hey! Whatcha doing?!" response from my body.)

The last couple of days preop were clear liquid. By then, I just didn't really care all that much about what was going in my mouth!

I was required to do Atkins diet for 2 weeks.

I ate tons of meat and a few vegies.

I lost 8 or 9 lbs.

I did not get dizzy. I felt great.

I do not take any Rx meds then or now.

Depends on where you go for your surgery and your surgeons suggestions. My surgeon didn't care how I did it but, wanted me to lose 10 pounds prior to surgery. I was told because it helped lose the fattiness around your liver which they need to move aside to put the band in. The fattier the liver the harder it is for them to do the surgery. Definitely go with whatever your surgeon or bariatric center tells you to do - they have good reasons for it. Good luck!

2 whey Protein shakes per day (I had one for Breakfast and one late in the afternoon) and two meals consisting of 3 oz of lean Protein, vegetable and one serving per day of whole grain carbs. I ate a "real" lunch and then my other "real" meal around 7:30. Frankly, I wasn't really hungry. If it had been all liquid, who knows?

Every doctor has his own pre-op requiements (including some who don't require anything).

I remained on all my meds until the day of surgery, at which point my internist took me off all my medication. Checked everything 60 days post-op and decided not to put me back on any meds. Now, 11 months later and 80 pounds lost, it has been okay.

What would you suggest snacking on when on the pre-op diet?

My pre-op diet was 2 weeks long and consisted of two Protein shakes and one cup of vegetable Soup a day. It was really hard the first 3 days and then my hunger vanished.

I did get really sick on the pre-op diet because I was still taking my blood pressure and diabetes medication. I thought that I was tired and dizzy due to not eating, but it was because my blood pressure was REALLY low! I stopped taking all my medication after consulting my PCP and haven't had to take them since! Yea me!

Good luck. You will make it through the pre-op diet. Just call it a warm-up for what you have to go through AFTER you are banded! I still haven't chewed anything yet!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
