Being a person that uses texting as a way of communication, I have no problem with people making errors. I am more interested in what they have to say than correcting their every word......If I corrected every person that used a medical term in the wrong fashion, I would go crazy...

I am a retired teacher and notice spelling and grammar more than most people. I have noticed that people on this site tend to use the spelling "loose" as a verb ie I want to loose weight. In fact, "loose" is the adjective form of the verb "lose" ie I am trying to "lose" weight. (the word "lose" shows action and is a verb) In the spelling "lose" the "s" sounds like a "z". My clothes are getting very "loose". (the word "loose" is an adjective describing the clothes) In the spelling "loose" the "s" is an "s" sound. Lynda

Welcome to the world of weight-loss message boards. Sadly, you're fighting a loosing (JUST KIDDING!) battle. This is a ubiquitous pet peeve, and has yet to be solved, despite thousands of posts just like yours. (Believe me, I understand; I am a writer and editor.) If it makes you feel better to vent, more power to you. This is an error, however, that thousands upon thousands before you have tried to correct to no avail.

Other egregious errors that will chafe are apostrophe abuse (APOSTROPHES ARE NOT USED IN PLURALS), they're/there/their confusion, and (*gasp*) text message-style abbreviations (u no?). And lots of punctuation issues, even in the posts of retired teachers.

It can drive you bonkers if you let it. Don't let it :(

The misuse of words and spelling/punctuation errors used to bother me a lot. Now I hardly ever see them unless it's so bad that I have to struggle to understand what they're saying. In which case, I figure if it wasn't important enough for them to at least attempt to clean it up, then it's not important enough for me to struggle to read and understand.

Thank God! I have found a post that is my soul mate (LOL).

Betsy~ Your grasp of the English language is stupendous! I, too, am a "grammar snob." I find it appalling when adults cannot even construct the most basic of sentences without an error. I find it abhorrent when I find misspelled words on public signs and in publications. My friends call me the "Grammar Nazi." Go figure!

I am a teacher who firmly believes that poor grammar, misspelled words, and punctuation mistakes should be gently pointed out so that it may be corrected. I certainly haven't won many popularity contests with this philosophy. C'est la vie!

I am on Facebook and see a lot of text speak (yur, no for know, etc.) and that does not bother me. Typing errors also are understandable in a back and forth conversation. But the misuse of their, there, and they're or your and you're annoy me. Especially from people who should know better. Oh and 'alot' instead of 'a lot' is the other one that gets me. I won't correct documents for people once they get annoyed with me for correcting other things. In for a penny, in for a pound.

Don't take it personally. I'm sure you are not the only person that spells that word that way. If so, it wouldn't have been interesting enough for its own thread.

Spelling and grammar errors make me crazy.

I try to run words I am unsure of through spell check.

Then I preview my posts and proof them.

Then I post them.

When I go back to them to read other responses--THAT is when I find my errors!

DRAT! Then I start wondering how many people read it...and think I cannot spell or use proper grammar. Ugh!

So, I fix the ones I notice and hope for the best, and try to overlook those of others. If I can't overlook them, then I skip the post.

Accdrnig to rscheearch at Cmabrigde Uinervtisy, it dseno't mtaetr in waht oerdr the ltteres in a wrod are, the olny iproamtnt tihng is taht the frsit and lsat ltteer be in the rghit pclae. Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
