5 days post op, HORRIBLE reflux

Recommended Posts

Hi all I was banded on Wednesday 1/13. I was sent home on Thursday but had to be readmitted on Friday due to nausea/dry heaving and dehydration. I came home yesterday. Ever since the surgery I have been having horrible reflux. I did have reflux before the surgery but it was well controlled with my medication. I am still taking the medication but I can feel the liquids coming back up into my throat. When it hits just below my sternum I get a a very sharp pain that last a few seconds then goes away. This happens several times an hour. Please tell me this will go away!! BTW the did do a upper gi and said that everything is going through the pouch just fine. I am only on liquids and Protein Shakes at this time. I am taking Nexium

The only reflux I've experienced (banded on the 12th) was related to a combo of stoma swelling and a Vicodin that took up residence in said constricted stoma.

Be sure you're taking very small sips of the liquid you drink, not using a straw, etc.

I am hoping that maybe my stoma is just still irritated and swollen from the surgery and the all the dry heaving I did the next day.

Are you doing Clear Liquids? That might give your poor tummy a chance to rest and heal.

I, too, was banded on the 13th and upon coming home and trying a Protein Shake for the first time, became horribly nauseous. Bending over and other movements set it off. I took phenergan and was able to proceed with the Protein. I still need the phenergan and wonder when I won't. I think we must try and be patient as we heal. I believe it will be worth it in the end.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
