STARVING after first fill?

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to chime in that my surgeon requires 72 hours of Clear Liquids after a fill... just so you know that what your surgeon is requiring is not totally 'out there'. For the Clear Liquids, I can only have Water, broth, caffeine free tea, Jello, and clear Protein shots. So, I expect that to be a pretty miserable 72 hours! LOL

I think the logic behind waiting 72 hours is to give your body a full chance for any swelling around your stoma to go down before moving on to foods. Otherwise, my surgeon is aggressive about moving on to solid foods. After surgery, I was on clear liquids only (non-calorie and non-protein too) for three days after too, but then could go straight to solid foods.

Anyway, all that said, just try to hang in there! Try not to read too much into your hunger right now. Liquids go right through the band so its impossible to tell how your restriction is until you can eat real food again.

I go for my first fill on Friday. I'm excited to get more restriction, but am also a little nervous because I do have a little restriction already (even w/an empty lapband) and I had one stuck episode w/a piece of bread that I never want to experience again.

Hi there. I started mushies yesterday and honestly didn't feel too much difference.

Today, I'm back on solids and I had a 4 oz yogurt, small banana and a cheese stick for Breakfast (around 2 hours ago) --I could've eaten more, trust me-- and my stomach is starting to growl. I am wondering if it is head hunger?? I don't know how I'm 'supposed' to feel. I am going to drink some Water now and try to hold out two more hours until lunch.

How long before I need to call the doc and tell them I need another fill? I don't know if I will feel restriction right away or it's something that happens a couple days later....

I just want to be able to know the whole restriction thing and be able to control my portions. I'm not looking to not be able to swallow my own saliva LOL

I had my first two fills only a week apart, and they were fairly aggressive fills too. The first was 4cc and the second 2ccs. If you have zero restriction, which is highly possible after your first fill, why wait?

You had your surgery only two days after I did and I just had my fourth fill today. I'm now going in 1/2cc increments until I get to my sweet spot because I'm not looking forward to not being able to swallow my own spit either. That happened today with one of the people getting filled, but the overfill was caught before she got out the door. My doctor makes you camp out in the lobby for a while after your fill to prove you can get a cup of Water down. Because it was caught so early they only had to take a bit out, not do a complete unfill.

I finally felt a little restriction last night but I think I am still able to eat too much. I had a whole cup of "scrambled" ground round. I didn't think I should be able to hold all of that but I did. I am still full this morning. I am hopeful that I will feel restriction and not be hungry for at least a few more weeks. i don't go back to the doc until Feb 24.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
