What are your goals?

Recommended Posts

Everytime I talk to someone about getting banded one of the first questions they ask is "What is your goal?" I NEVER have an answer! I have no concept of weight in numbers.....the fact that my boyfriends sister weighs pretty close to what I weigh flabbergasts me. She is 5'3" I am 5'8" she wears a size 18 jeans I wear 26/28. I know it's all in how we carry it body type etc etc but it still baffles me!! I've told people that I would be prefectly happy in a size 14 maybe 12 as long as I can shop somewhere other than Fat Chicks R Us (that is what I call LB lol) But I have no idea what weight that means for me.

ANYWAY...I'm a bit longwinded...sorry

My questions are as follows.....what's your height weight and goal? Did you or your doctor set the goal for you?

My hight 5' 7". My goal weight is 150 lbs. I chose this number because it is where I was comfortable in past years. A little lower than 150 would be great, but I am trying to be realistic too. I also think bone structure plays a role. My feet are small for my hight and my wrists are small in my opnion (6" at this point and still obese). You have to take in to account your body shape. Even at my lowest adult weight of 130 lbs, my hips and thighs were wider than other women at the same weight. I will never wear "boy shorts" or have "boy hips". That is just a fact and I accept it.

My Dr. did not say anything about my goal weight. I was simply over a BMI of 40 and he agreed I needed the band.

Right now, my goal is to look back a year from my surgery and know I did the right thing for myself. My goal is to not keep getting fatter, and do something!

I am sure that my goals will change, and develop around and ideal weight. But for me, I'd like to get back down to a size 10. I like the way I look at a size 10, and it's healthier than the 20 I am in now. I would be happy with that. If I do even better than that, it would just be gravy to me.

ahhhhh....see maybe that's my problem....because I have ALWAYS been heavy I honestly do not believe that I was EVER a size 10 or 12. I remember being a freshman in high school wearing a 14 or 16 jeans, prior to that I always wore stretch pants (it was the 80's after all lol) So conceivably the last time I could have possibly been a size 10 or 12 was when I was younger than 14 definitely no way I can compare my >14 year old body to my 35 year old body lmao

I just had my first appointment with my surgeon earlier this week and he asked me that same question. Since I've been overweight pretty much all of my adult life, I really had no benchmark of a particular goal. Sure it's easy to say, "I want to weigh 140 lbs" but for me, I know that is just not humanly possible. I don't want to set some idealistic, unrealistic goal, because then I feel like I would be too focused on feeling like I HAD to reach that milestone or I'd be a failure.

I want to be a healthy, happy me. If that means me losing 75 lbs, I'd be happy and not feel like I failed for not losing 100. When I started college in 1990, the last time I remember really being happy with my weight, I weighed 155. To be that weight again would be nice, but honestly, just to weigh under 199 or under for the first time in 15 years would be enough to make me do the Happy Dance.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
