Hi Tracy. Dr. Les Miles at Medical Center East does the lap band procedure. They hold seminars once a month (I think). I went to one and they quoted me $14,000. I don't think that included fills.

My BMI is a tad on the lower side, I guess (at 35). They told me I would need to have comorbid conditions with a BMI of 35 or under for them to do the procedure, so I decided to go elsewhere.

I've heard some people rave about Dr. Miles and his staff, but in my personal opinion- they were quite snippy and rude.

Good luck!

(BTW- I thought you had already decided on a doc in MX?)

Hi Stephanie!

Thanks for the info! As the time to schedule my surgery got closer, my Hubby got more nervous & told me(FINALLY), that he was scared for me to have the surgery done in MX. I wish he had been up front from the beginning of our discussion! Men! LOL I think, I'm gonna check around for a little while & see where I can get the best price/deal, somewhere here in the southeast.

Keep in touch.

Huggs!

Hi Tracy!

I have my surgery scheduled for Dec 5th with Dr. Les Miles at Medical Center East in B'Ham. After meeting with him on a couple of occasions, I found him very honest. He laid all of the issues I had out for me, but also had a great sense of humor! I am unsure as to how many surgeries he has completed, but I am happy to put my trust in him. BTW, the fee I have to pay (yeah, yeah, insurance is not covering it for me) does include the first year fills and appointments! It is somewheat higher than the Doc in Decatur, but is only 45 minutes from home, and includes all the post-operative care!!

Thought you might like to know!

Good LUck (wish me luck too!)

Thanks for the info, Cheri! But I met with Dr Chandler, in Decater, & I will probably have my surgery, the 1st or 2nd week in Jan. Like someone else

who replied to this post, I think, Dr Miles staff was a little snippy, when I called them to inquire about the surgery. Dr Chandler's staff is wonderful!!! They'll do anything they can to help you! I live in Walker Co., so Decater, is only a little over an hours drive from here. If you change your mind, check into Dr Kenneth Chandler, Decatur General Hospital & Bariatric office, Decatur, AL. Best of luck with your surgery!!!

Huggs!

Tracy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
