Al-Anon anyone?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was just wondering if there is anyone here who is a member of Al-Anon?

It's hard to believe that I've been a member for 20 years.

Anyway, I'd love to hear from others.

Debbie

I don't know of any meetings in Sacramento, but if you look up Al-Anon on line you will find a directory that lists meetings in your area.

Good luck!

I am a grateful recovering member of Al Anon. For me, because of my program, I have been led to the place I need to be right now. Exactly when I was ready to be there. My surgery date is Feb 3, 2010,just a few days away. Due to the general nature of any surgery, I have some anxiety. But - Just for Today - I am have been given the gift of serenity.

And for that, I will be forever grateful.

SweetPetunia, good luck with your surgery. A week after yours, I will be celebrating my first bandiversary.

I don't believe I could have come to this point without Al-Anon. I've learned to take charge of the one thing I can control, my own life, and for that I too, will always be grateful to the program.

I'll be thinking about you on the 3rd.

Debbie

Debbie, Your thoughts and support are appreciated. It is comforting to know there are others that understand how any disease can change a person. And that there is help and hope in recovery for those that seek it.

My best to you on the 10th!!

Hi, I'm Cheri, also gratefully recovering though no longer attending much Alanon. But, 17 yrs, of faithful attendance brought a lot of recovery, and now I'm tackling the biggest part of my recovery, my weight. Band June 18, 2009. Lost 67 lbs, 3 lbs from goal. :thumbup:Been slipping a little this past week:thumbdown: so looking to get back on track. Final fill (I hope) next Tuesday should do the trick.

Also have a blog: IF YOUR STOMACH OFFENDS YOU, TIE IT OFF

I don't post as frequently lately, but you might be interested in the posts I did when I began my journey. Hope this becomes a good thread.

Thank you, Cheri. Congratulations on your weight loss. The good news is that, even though we slip, and I include myself, we have a tool that allows us to get back on track.

I didn't learn this behavior overnight, and now I get to unlearn it. As my sponsor always tells me, I must be gentle with myself. Easier said than done!

Amazingly, yesterday I was at goal. I slept late and weighed much later than usual and I'd been dancing the night before--so it'll probably take me a few days to really rope that weight in and get it to stabilize. But still, I'm very happy. Get my fill Tuesday, just a tweak but I'm hoping it helps with the maintenance phase. I can just plain eat too much--especially at night.

Great Job Cheri!! Progress not perfection. As Debbie stated, we have the tools to make positive changes in our lives. I have always been told that the Al-Anon program was simple - - which is not to be confused with easy. Applying these tools and principles to all aspects of our lives may not be easy, the rewards (not just a number on the scale) are reason enough for me to work my program daily. Continued success in your recovery, you have earned it! clap.gif

Got my fill today. Dr. said the band was wide open. So he gave me quite a fill. No wonder I've been struggling a little lately. I have to stay on liquids for 3 days. He said it might be a little tight, to come back if it was. I love having the barium with floroscope to help guide the Dr. for a fill. No guesswork. He can see the restriction or lack thereof.

Very cool!

Cheri, Glad to hear things are moving forward for you. Your doctors procedure for an adjustment seems a great way to get the best results possible. Adjustments to our attitudes can be just as important as saline. Keep up the good work!

Well, I am just about ready to go the hospital for my surgery. I am a little anixous, but overall quite calm. I see this day as another step in my recovery process. I have been guided to this point and know in my heart it is exactly where I need to be. By chairing and speaking at our Beginner's Meeting and our Regular meeting last night, I gathered a lot of strength and hope to keep me going. I have told members I was having surgery today, but not what procedure. I choose not to at this time. I was able to express how grateful I am to have my program, the fellowship, and my Higher Power-which I credit for getting me here in the first place.

I know all will be the way it should.

When everything is done, it will all be OK. And if it is not OK, then it's not done yet.

SweetPetunia, please let us know how your surgery went as soon as you're able.

A few years ago I had another abdomenal surgery and I shared that with my Sunday morning meeting. Everyone was very supportive, and though I had some anxiety, I took all their good wishes with me.

This time I didn't tell anyone I was getting the lap band except my sponsor. I usually tell anyone who will listen, and I do after they comment on my weight loss.

Hoping everything goes well for you, and sending good wishes for a speedy, uneventful recovery.

Debbie

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
