Is it possible?

Recommended Posts

Do you think you could get a fill and they could actually miss the port entirely and just inject the saline into your body? I mean what happens if they miss the port- anything? Would we even know immediately? My fill last Thursday felt "different"- can't describe it but I feel absolutely no different and am just wondering if it is a possibility?

Yes, I believe that is possible. This is why I get my fills under fluoroscopy. By doing it under fluoro the doctor and you can see the change in barium flow as saline is injected.

Personally, I think the person doing the fill would have to be somewhat incompetent to completely miss your port. i've NEVER had fluroscopy and I've never had a problem of any sort related to my fills. Hope that's some consolation.

I have had numerous fills and missing the port has never been an issue. They have hit the side of my port but the nurse knew instantly that she had missed and took another stab at it. My dr also requires that when you go in for a fill they completely withdraw all the Fluid to check your level and then put it back in plus .25cc so they always know they are in. But even if the saline is floating around inside your body no harm will come from that. Your body will just re-absorb it. I would have your dr. check your fluid level just for piece of mind.

From my experience its really not possible, given strange things do happen at times but the fills are pretty straight forward and whoever does it should always check the Fluid before hand..if for no other reason then to check for a leak or evaporation of the Fluid.< /p>
