Congrats on making a life changing decision. Some people find it very hard to follow directions/diet. Some lose fast and others slow. It's up to the individual actually. We're all different so it's hard to say how you will be.

I suggest that you follow your doctor's directions to the letter and as you go along, you will learn your body. Some suggestions that might help you after the surgery are (1). Make sure you walk around your house as much as possible. It will help with the gas pains. (2) Drink your fluids. (3) Have some Gas-X strips on hand and follow directions on box. (4) Support surgery areas with pillows at night or sleep in a reclinder.(5) Expect to hear lots of funny noises from your tummy, burping, hiccups.

(6) Have some Benefiber & stool softner on hand in case you wind up with conspitation in about five days. (7) Once swelling goes down, your desire for food will come back in force. You will have to tough it out until you start getting the fills. Everyone feels restriction at different levels.(8) check in with us for your questions/answers. (9) Hang in there. (10) You are on your way to a new journey of being healthier and skinner. Yippee.

My only other advice is to be ready to have significant hunger until you have had some fills. Restriction seems to happen for people at different rates. I have had a lot more hunger then I thought. Looking back, I may have choosen bypass surgery. However after a second fill I am feeling less hungry. You'll just need to be patient.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
