Tricare Prime South Expected Approval Time?

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

I'm new to this. My mom and I are planning on getting "banded" together. We've been through all the steps that Tricare requires. I'm from the Dallas area and we chose TLC Edge as our surgery center of choice with Dr. Daryl Stewart to perform the surgery. They've been great with one exception-their insurance case people were a horror. We met with their doctor, dietician, and director, got all of our bloodwork/psyc/PCP referral in by Dec. 28 and they just YESTERDAY sent in our information to Tricare with my mom and I hounding them. Tomorrow, we are going to our pre-op with the surgeon who was angry with TLC for dragging their feet. ANYWAY, the surgeon's office is saying that Tricare usually takes 6 weeks to get an approval through, but most of the posts I've seen here, people have gotten their approval in a few days! Any input? How long did it take you to get approved after all your information was in? Thanks!

Hi

I have Tricare Prime and I live in PA. Once all my stuff was submitted to Tricare it took less than a week, they did call my Dr once for further info, and then they called me once to ask about diet history... two days later I was approved! Good luck to you and your Mom, your lucky to be doing this together!

Hello,

I live in Georgia and have Tricare Prime South, I have recently been approved to be banded and it took less then 72hrs for them to approve it. The hospital itself was the one that took the longest to gather the paperwork and submit it. I am scheduled to have surgery the 13th of April. I was scheduled earlier then that but got a horrible stomach flu and had to reschedule. :smile2: I hope things start rolling along for you. Good Luck

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
