Well I had surgery about 11 months ago and my Hair loss was scary and constant too. In Sep my dr had me do blood work to see if there was anything abnormal. Nope all good. I've heard theories that it's your body reacting to weight loss, surgery (anesthesia), etc... I took extra Vitamins and Biotin. I don't think it worked but it has seemed to slow down. I don't really have any answers except it does seem like a common side effect. I hope that helps anyway! Sorry! Good Luck and let us know if u do discover something!

Hair loss after lapband surgery is completely normal. It really helps to get in at least 65-75 grams of solid Protein a day, Biotin did seem to slow mine down. Your body goes through so many drastic changes and hairloss is just a consequence of all those changes. It will pass and the hair does start to grow back usually after about 5-7 months post op if you are getting your protein in, thats a big one! All the benefits of banding definately outweigh the negatives that come along here and there. Hope this helps, I know it IS VERY FRUSTRATING! I had thin hair to begin with! It will grow back though...try not to worry too much, it's not permanent.

sounds like you are doing everything right... lots of protein, Biotin everyday. my doctor advised me not to perm or color my hair between 3-6months out b/c that is a crucial time for the stress from surgery etc to cause Hair loss. Another thing they recommended was Flaxseed Oil for the hair. Hmm... also there are special shampoos & conditioners..I think called Nixion or something like that. I used it for a few months, seemed to help. I'm now nearly 10months out and notice my hair coming out semi easily, just pray it stops. Thank goodness I had thick hair in the beginning!

Just a quick word of reassurance. I was banded 2 years ago and used to have long curly hair, which I used to be able to sit on! Once I was banded It got thinner and thnner and inthe end I took the plunge and chopped it off. It is now much thicker again and, you know what, the short, snappy cut I have chosen is esier to maintain, quicker to wash and look after and much more me. I used to have long flowing hair because I was so fat that it wasa the only thing I felt showed I was feminine - now, I don't need it any more.

I know we all have a lot tied up in our hair - as women I mean, but it is just keratin extruding from our scalps. It changes when we change (puberty, pregnancy, menopause - lapband surgery) and will always be changeable. Try not to get too upset, it will probably thicken up again when you get closer to your goal weight - mine did. And in the meantime, why not try a change of style to go with yout changing body shape?

You sound like you are doing allthe right things. Good luck - and happy hairstsyle!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
