Ok, so I haven't flown since 1999. I am scared to death of flying. However, I'm flying to Illinois on Saturday, and I'm already nervous enough, but I was wondering if anyone ever had any problems flying with the band? I know the band doesn't contain metal, but I read a thread from over 2 years ago that someone said their port area set set off the detector. Has this happened to anyone else? I'm already nervous, don't want to worry about this as well!;)

I have flown 2 times since I was banded. I didn't set off any metal detectors and I didn't have any issues. However, my mom is banded as well and she did set off the Orlando Airport detector with her band but there were no problems with her getting through security. She explained to them that she had the Lap Band and they were aware of it and they have had a couple people with the Band set it off. No biggie. She didn't have any other issues with it in the air. I am thinking it must have to do with the sensitivity of the detectors at the airport since it only happened at the one airport. Just my thoughts.

I was banded the day before you and in August I flew and I had no problems... no issues w/the metal detectors and no issues w/the band tightening up from the pressure of the airplane or altitude.. you should be fine!

I have flown several times with no issue. I believe the port has a bit of metal on the back side of it. Should be simple enough to explain if the detector is set that sensitive. The detectors pick up metals is areas of the body, so if you are wearing bracelets, lift your arms going through, this will spread out the metal, making it less likely that you will cause a need for secondary search.

I did a 3 month stint on jury duty after being banded, this was a comon solution when I set off the detectors at the courthouse. I always wear a heavy sterling silver Bracelet. I would remove my watch but not the bracelet, so the guards would have me lift my arms. It worked every time.

The band will not expand in flight as there is no air inside of it. It is all saline, so no worries there! I have never felt any changes.

I flew a few weeks ago on a 6 hour flight. I didnt set off any metal detectors and was fine during the flight. I was even able to eat ( chicken and fruit) during the 6 hours in the air. Since my band is 8cc filled in an 11cc band I felt a little sore in the band area the next day I am assuming from the pressure changes while on the plane ( as I am have never had that feeling before). It wasnt unbearable but was a small reminder almost from my band that it was still there.

Many people fly back the day after getting banded in Mexico and I haven't heard of any having issues.

I've flown twice round trip and did experience a little tightness but it went away within a couple days. I'm at my sweet spot now, so I hope I don't get too tight for two upcoming flights in Feb and March. No issues with metal detectors or anything though.

Cocoabean the band my not have air in it but it can provide added pressure when flying. I have had trouble everytime have flown. I can't eat a thing for a whole day after i fly. It of course will and can be different for every person but it should be known it can happen.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
