First fill today - oh, hell no.

Recommended Posts

Jeez! I didn't realize that the needle

was the size of an ice pick!

:)

Thank God they numbed me first.

And the nurse was pushing in DEEP.

I'm like, "uh, no...that's my spine."

It was very strange.

Discovered that I already had 3cc's in the band.

Doc and nurse were surprised.

I told them that I didn't have any restriction

since the swelling went down.

"Normal" they said.

So they added 1 cc giving me a total of 4 out of 10 cc's.

But what the HELL is with the hiccups, folks?!

;)

I NEVER get hiccups and now after I eat,

I burp (like a MAN!), and them BAM...

hiccups like there's no tomorrow.

Please tell me what's up with that?

First it was the sneezing...now the hiccups.

Just part of the band thing. Some do it and others don't. I belch like a longshoreman! It's not lady-like burps...it loud long belching.

I don't have any problems with fills. I don't even feel it and they don't numb it. Guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

Some say the hiccups are their full signal. I get them from time to time. Just a few. I never did the sneeze thing, but have read of others who do.

I burp like crazy, too. My DH has learned to cheer me on, as it means that I am not stuck. A good sign! But not very lady like!

:), that's FUNNY b/c when I saw that fill needle I started to sweat and wonder HOW/WHY/WAIT.... I had no idea the needle was that big but when he numbed me first and then impaled me, I felt NOTHING... all was well with the world!

I haven't had the hiccups but I belch like I am in a contest now! OMG and them come from deep down and rumble their way up and out... so embarrassing (sometimes) LoL

Yeah, right. "You're gonna do WHAT, with THAT?"

Then I blink and see it is a really tiny thing.

No, really, after the numbing stuff, which stings a tiny bit, I just feel a bit of pressure and a slight pop when the huber needle goes into the port and then all done!

Drink some Water to be sure it isn't too tight and I am out the door.

"OMG, I have my first fill tomorrow! Crap---it's the size of an ice pick? Did you feel how deep, really?"

I didn't feel anything.

It's just very strange to have

someone "skewering" you like that.

I am super fearful of needles...

enough that I intensify the pain (in my head) with my anxiety.

They numbed me and it was all just pressure after that.

I didn't watch...no way.

I also applied EMLA cream on the port site

an hour before so I didn't even feel the numbing needle.

Again...major chicken here.

I'm sorry...I didn't mean to cause a freak out.

If I can do it...anyone can.

Trust me.

I guess I should admit that I have always burped like that.

It's a skill I have mastered from a very young age.

;)

But the problem is that now it's all the time!

It's to the point where my very tolerant husband goes,

"Could you give a rest, sweetie? Tryin' to watch the game..."

My fear is that I'll accidentally roar one out in public.

My first was yesterday too and while really minimal pain over all, it was WEIRD....Yes, I watched, yes I'm a freak, they had me sit up and then put some in, took some out, I kept looking at this little port thing sticking out of me thinking well that's just freaky...but all in all it was a piece of cake. Majorly cool that they can do that!

I thought I was the only one with thise kind of burgles. It is sad/ funny because it does feel like they are coming from my feet all the way through my body. ;) They are so lady-like:ohmy:

Y'all are killing me with the burp discussion. I never burped much before the band but now I have tiny little burps at the end of a meal. I take it as my full, but haven't overeaten, signal.

I'm wondering why the huge needles? The syringe they use on me is tiny and I don't even feel it when they poke through the skin. No numbing either.

I only had one fill but the dr. used a small needle. He just wiped me with alcohol and poked. I hate needles as much as as the next guy. But it wasn't as painful as some described. Thank goodness!

I wasn't numbed for mine. It definitely hurt more than I expected, BUT it was QUICK!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
