Hello from Central Illinois.

Hello my name is Jamie. I am 37 years old and I am on the journey of having the Lapband done.

I have been over weight ever since the birth of my daughter 18 years ago. I have a few friends that have had this done and they say its the best thing they could have done.

I have been on this sight for sometime now just lurking in the background reading and learning everything I can.

I have decided to have my surgery thru Dr. Sid Rohrscheib's office in Clinton, IL. His staff really makes you feel at ease. I have already got the ball rollin. I am in my 6 mo supervised diet right now. Ive already had my phy eval and consultation.

The reason I am just now posting is because I am in need of motivation and support. My husband and daughter are basically my only supporters. My in-laws ALWAYS say "diet and exercise will do the same thing" One of my friends who had the lapband done last April. Well her sister tells me all the time not to do it. That its the worst mistake of my life. I inform her all the time "you dont live in my body. you dont know what its like to be big like me. you dont live in the pain and fear everyday somethings gonna happen. You dont have the problem of smells and not feeling completely clean even after you shower cause you just couldn't quite reach back there. Yet she still sticks to her suggestion.

I have been on my 6mo diet almost 3 mo. I go again next Monday. So far the first mo i lost 5.9lb. woohoo...The second I gained 4.6 back :-( The dr said i was doing Amazing cause i did that over the Holidays. So now its almost weigh in time. I am scared to death. Whats gonna happen if i gain more? I am staying true to my diet and exercise he put me on..

Well I have taken up alot. So until next time. Thanks in advance for all your support and advice.

Much Love, Jamie

Congradulations on taking the first steps to becoming banded. It will be one of the best things you can do for yourself. I would not let your friends sister worry you about getting the band. How has your frined done with being banded? Keep in mind it is for you not anyone else. You are the one that has the power to make it work. No one else can do that for you. Glad to see the your husband and daughter will support you that is all you will need. I have been banded for 2 1/2 years and so has my wife and we support each other. The main thing is not to compare how fast you loose etc. Everyone is differant in how fast they loose. They say men loose faster than the gals do. If you need any help or support just ask.

Chris

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
