I was banded about the same time as you it seems...for me 10/14/09

I am like you...I am ssssoooo hungry around 5:00 I cannot control myself. I went in for my third fill last week and she said it should help...well guess what??? still a problem this time of day.

I have 5.8 ccs in my 10cc band...

Here is what I am eating...maybe we can help each othere out!!! I do drink at least 64 ounces of Water and I get my Protein goal met.

Breakfast: Protein Shake

Lunch: something like chili...beef stew...meat/veggies

snack: sting cheese (i usually end up eating two of them)

dinner: things like meatloaf-chili-lean meats grilled-pot roast-and veggies

I personally don't do Protein Shakes. I did on mushies but not since. I was advised against them since they just go right through the pouch and provide too many calories. Just stick with lean Protein and veggies. You will start to lose when you reach your sweet spot.... Best of luck!!!

I have to keep it simple. Too much thinking about food just makes me want it all the more. So here's my sample menu:

Breakfast:

Protein shake made with milk and 1/2 banana

OR

1 scrambled egg, 1 slice of toast and I use a bit of butter on the toast

Mid Meal (about 2.5 hours after breakfast and 2.5 hours before lunch):

Low carb/low calorie Protein Shake (I do Isopure 1 scoop in a cup of water)

lunch

3-4 oz tuna or chicken mixed with a bit of lite mayo and stuffed in a Tomato or with some lettuce.

OR

3-4 oz grilled chicken in a salad and yes I use real oil in my dressing

Mid Meal (about 2.5 hours after lunch and 2.5 hours before dinner):

Low carb/low calorie Protein shake (I do Isopure 1 scoop in a cup of water)

DINNER:

3-4 oz protein (grilled chicken or steak, baked fish)

1/2 cup low carb vegies such as broccoli, brussel sprouts, green Beans, cabbage, etc. (sometimes it's more like 3/4 c)

2 Tbs or 1/4 cup rice, potatoes, Pasta or Beans

AFTER dinner MINI MEAL (about 2.5 hours after)

Low carb/low cal protein shake

IMHO it's normal to be hunger around 5 p.m. That's dinner time for most and it's been 5 hrs since you ate lunch - and Snacks aren't meals .

I don't find that my band takes away my hunger - it makes me full on a smaller amount of food but that's it.

I still get hungry - I still have head hunger issues - I still crave unhealthy foods.

As to # of cc's in your band you can't compare yourself to anyone else as we all are diff - I haven't had a fill for 2 yrs and I'm at a 5 (I think) what works for me - might not work for you - Fills are only about limiting the quanity of foods you eat at one time..

Here's my menu - I have replaced weight control oatmeal w/steel cut oats now a days - but that's about it - I am still eating this way - it's all about lifestyle change - you gotta find what works for you and make it livable for you..

It's all about eating healthy - not dieting...

Wishing you the best...

I just had my first fill today. They put 1 cc into the 4.5 cc I already had in my 10 cc band. Not sure if that will work or what, we will see.

For breakfast I eat two eggs scrambled or egg beaters and melt a bit of fat free cheese on top. Mid morning I have a Protein shake made with skim milk.

lunch varies, it could be chili made with ground turkey, meatloaf with ground turkey, 1/2 a baked potato with steamed broccoli and fat free cheese, egg salad with light mayo, chicken salad with light mayo, etc.

If I need a snack mid afternoon or before dinner I'll have a sugar free pudding or a yogurt or a piece of reduced fat cheese or sometimes I take a teaspoon of Peanut Butter.

For dinner I have many of the things that eat for lunch or I will have grilled or baked chicken, steamed vegetables, etc. I'm not a big red meat eater and I don't like fish. I have begun to love my Quesadilla maker. I buy wheat wraps and make quesadilla with fat free cheese, steamed broccoli, chicken, and refried Beans. You can do it with any kind of ingredients you prefer. My husband does chili, refried Beans and adds sour cream on top.

At night I will have a Protein Shake or my new favorite thing is sugar free chocolate pudding, sugar free cool whip, a bit of Protein powder and whip it up into a mousse. Someone told me to make "ice cream" sandwiches with sugar free cool whip and chocolate graham crackers too. I'm going to try that this weekend.

I am surprised to hear so many people drink a protien shake. I agree with the post about how they are not filling and have significant calories. That being said, I finally have restriction with the band. I am thinking of doing a shake if I haven't been able to eat enough protien across the day.

I drink that shakes at the advice of my nutritionist - i know i dont get enough protien, and the shakes a actually do fill me up for a couple hours and get me through the in between time of lunch and dinner - mine dont have many calories right around 100.

I drink a Protein Shake every morning per doctors orders. She does say, however, to not drink anymore- to get the Protein from food.< /span>

I guess every doctor is different...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
