stuck and starving..

Can someone please help me mentally put the pieces together?

I had a fill about a week ago, and now am feeling pretty good restriction. I have to practically liquefy my food before swallowing to avoid that painful “stuck” feeling, however.. ..it seems that this is causing me to be hungrier, faster. Also, chewing like this allows more then 1 cup to get through. A doctor told me that if you over chew your food, it is counterproductive, and I think that may be what I am experiencing.

I am wondering if your body somehow figures out what is happening, and it’s a matter of your stomach shrinking too? At what point does the decreased hunger kick in?

I'm no expert but I'll give my 2 cents here. My guess is that your food IS going through the band because it is so liquidy. If I were you, I would check with my surgeon's office and get their input. I know sometimes it can take a while to adjust to a fill (I had one in Nov and am still getting used to what and how much I can eat), but find out from them if they think you may too tight,or if maybe you just need to try more solids. You should be able to eat solids - life on liquids isn't what we signed up for!

Good luck and keep us updated!

Yep, I think you are too tight too. You should not be drinking your meals with the exception of maybe Breakfast. You should call your surgeon and see what they say, you might need a tiny unfill.

I have been facing the "head hunger" issue alot lately. I don't think it's a coincidence that I've also been dealing with family "issues" lately as well.

I think alot of this process is mental. I was going along, losing steadily, happy as a clam for the first six months of this journey. Then, bam! People in my life start spazzing out and I start getting inside my own head and weight loss has come to a screeching halt. Hunger is back, trying to knock down the door.

I've begun to look at the reasons I became obese in the first place. I spoke to my doctor, explaining that my weight loss is affecting my relationships. He referred me to a psychologist he works with to help post-op bandsters "adjust." <Okay, pun intended!>

Talk to your doctor about your hunger. Physical or mental, he can help you.

All the best luck!

Hugs,

I take medications for a type of brain tumor that I have that causes major headaches, and I have to take the medicine with some kind of food, so even on liquids, I need a little something. I start with "whips" by yoplait. They have improved them from when they first came out, and the strawberry is very good and the new vanilla Creme' is to die for. The next best friend as I gradually go to semi solid foods is cottage cheese small curd, applesauce, and then I discovered refried Beans. I had a bad month where everthing seemed to get stuck, and I ate fat free refried beans with a small amount of 2% mexican blend cheese and mild taco sauce (the kind that is in a bottle with no chuncks, not the jars of salsa.) I also have tried eating a baked potato cooked very soft, and like the beans, it was heaven! These are not foods that I normally would have liked a whole lot before. I hope that helps. If you can not eat the things I suggested, then I would agree with the ppl saying you might be overfilled. I was once, and every bite got stuck in the middle of my chest and I would just cry waiting for it to go down, and finally gave in to get some Fluid out. I had tried too long to tough it out hoping I would get used to it, and all I did was make my husband mad that I was too stubborn to get an unfill. Good Luck. Feel free to email me if you want to talk. I am by no means an expert, I am struggling to lose weight because when I was too tight, I was eating things I knew not to, but I was hungry and they went down and felt good (like pudding and ice cream) and ended up doing it for more than a month, and ended up gaining more weight than before my surgery, and seem to be stuck there.

Do you mean you liquify your food before you eat it...or that you chew it so much that it's mush in your mouth before you swallow it?

All the literature I have from my band says to chew your food so that it's like mush in the mouth. Even then, there are some foods that will still give you a problem. I do this and the food doesn't slide through right away for me.

According to one website (sorry, can't remember where), they said to be careful when adding things like mayo to tuna or chicken because it wets it down and can make it into a slider food. I had to stop eating casserole type dishes for this very reason.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
