Fage 0% - what do you mix in?

Recommended Posts

Good Morning!

So i bought a tub ( the only size avail ) of Fage 0% ( the only kind they had ) and i really like the taste and texture of it! I was surprised! I used it on my potato last night because i was out of FF Sour Cream. I could eat the 2% by itself, but the 0% is too tangy alone.

What do you mix in with yours? How do you use it? I need IDEAS ! please

Here's a little bit of information. Greek yogurt is usually more expensive than plain yogurt. You can buy cartons of plain yogurt. Then put a coffee filter in a strainer, dump in the yogurt, cover it and put it in the fridge. The Water will drain out and if you can be patient and wait overnight, you will get really creamy Greek yogurt!

Once you have your Greek yogurt, you can add lots of different things:

Artificial sweetner

vanilla extract

fresh fruit

honey

granola (but watch the fat and calorie count)

There are other flavor extracts on the baking aisle besides vanilla. Experiment with adding vanilla and lemon or orange (and maybe adding some mandarin orange sections to the orange flavored yogurt).

Walden Farms makes a calorie free chocolate Syrup (I buy it where you buy the other ice cream toppings). It tastes okay, a bit cocoa-y, and I use it in several things. I haven't tried it but you might be able to add that to the Greek yogurt.

Greek yogurt is the best. It is not the same as regular plain yogurt. The Protein you get in greek yogurt is not going to be the same in regular plain yogurt. Fage 0% has 20 grams of protein per 8 oz. low fat Dannon yogurt has 11 grams of protein per serving, not bad but the greek is so much better. Put and assortment of fresh berries in it, a little agave nectar and some walnuts and you have a meal. I love it!

I actually do frozen fruit with it in the blender...usually fruits that I can't eat on their own because of the skins, like cherries. If it's obliterated in the blender I don't have any problems.

Have you tried the little cup of Fage and honey? Honey is perfect in it!

Also, my Whole Foods is selling a Croatian fig spread that tastes amazing in my Fage.

It's also a great substitute for mayo in tuna or chicken salad. If its too tangy, just mix in a small amount (tsp or less) of mayo to mellow the flavor--you'll still be saving a ton of fat and calories.

ALSO !! Any suggestions for thinning it out a bit? I put a 1/4 cup into a container to eat once i got to work, and added 1T Almond and Vanilla granola , and some almond extract. NUMMY !! But it was thicker than paste ! Was it because i waited an hour to eat it and the granola absorped ANY liquid that may have been there? I loved the taste but not the thickness. Oh sure, as a mayo substitute or on a baked potato ? Perfect! But just to eat plain ?

Any thoughts? Ideas?

Thanks!!

You can also make ranch dip out of the plain no fat Greek yogurt. Just add a package of the mix to 16 oz of the yogurt. Great for dipping veggies or on a baked potato if you want all those carbs.

I became a G.Y. addict just post-op (love it with SF Preserves best). My doc considers this a slider so I usually only use it in place of sour cream now (tacos, dips, chili, etc.).

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
