Blue Cross not paying for fills

Recommended Posts

The fills at my office would be $300. I just switched toBCBS of NJ. I just assumed that the fills were covered. Guess I will find out soon

I have Anthem Blue Cross for LA County Area, they will also not pay for my fills (which I agree is stupid)

Anyone know if BCBS of Mass covers fills?

I agree with you! It's counterintuitive to cover the surgery but not the fills, isn't it? I'm in CA too and I just assumed they would cover it, but now I'll have to find out.

Does anyone know what fills cost on average?

My doctor charges $250 for a fill, thank goodness my BCBS covers it.

I have Anthem BC of California. I live in L.A. Originally I was giving the doc's office my co pay but when he moved his office to Beverly Hills he no longer requires the co pay. He says that the fills are part of the surgery. I don't get it, but I ain't knocking it! Good luck!

I wanted to get some feedback from other Anthem Blue Cross LAP-BAND®® patients. They have just informed me that they will not pay for adjustments/fills. They believe it is part of the surgery. I am appealing their decision. I have a case manager who told me the first three fills were covered by BC.

I would love to hear about others experience with BC.

I have Anthem Blue Cross too. Just had my first fill last week so we shall see. But I'm also having problems with Anthem covering the office visits before surgery. Were yours covered? They also kicked out a bill for the bloodwork. It's frustrating! Please keep us posted on your progress with Blue Cross. Good luck!

When I spoke with the insurance person in my dr. office, she said that she should have included the first 3 fills that occurred in the first 90 days in the surgery cost. So, I am elated that those will be covered and I don't have to pay BC back. As far as future fills, they will be $350 but will go toward my deductible. I still feel BC should cover for the the first year.

I had just one dr. appointment before my Aug. 09 surgery. And one psych appt. they were covered. I am still waiting for BC to pay for the pre-op appt and bloodwork.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
