Topped up...

Recommended Posts

I went and seen my band Dr today and explained my restriction waning over the last 6 weeks...plus I have put on 2 kgs in the last couple of weeks. He told me it was time for a top up since it had been a few months and I had lost a bit since then. He put .7mls in...so now I am at 9.6 mls. I know we shouldnt think about it but all day I have worried myself sick with the thought of what if I dont get good lasting restriction and end with 10mls. What do I have to work with for the next however long while losing weight. I dont know, I am so early in my journey and have such a topped up band and I really havent felt alot of difference since the fill, but I do know mine usually dont kick in for a couple of weeks. Why oh why cant I be one of the ppl that get restriction with plenty of more room left to play with. I know I am just whining, but I really am worried. :)

You have made amazing progress in such a short time! I hope you get the restriction level you need with this last fill. :)

I'm wondering, are they certain that you have a full 9.6 ml in there? Did they pull it all out at your fill and start fresh? I've read several posts here where some of it disappears. Maybe you have more wiggle room than you think.

Hi Anne,

Thanks for the reply. My Dr has never checked the amount I have in. He said that it can stuff up too much by doing it, because of the kinks etc in the band you wont have the same restriction you did before after removing it and putting it back in. Even if I dont get the restriction everyone talks about, I will be happy with something I can work with, just worried how I can maintain my band for life with no room to play with. KWIM?

Kelly,

I've heard of the 10cc/ml band having gone up to 13cc/ml when someone reached 10 and didn't have enough restriction. The doctor was in close contact with Inamed when it was done (it was an Inamed band, I don't know what brand you have), but it worked out fine. Also, there was someone on another forum that was worried about the same thing, and Inamed told her the 10cc band could easily go up to 13 without an issue.

So there's even a little more room than you think. Although if your restriction goes down again over the next few weeks like it did with the last fill, maybe your doc should check for a leak?

You must battle this with your will and realize that you are working within these restrictions. Look at how well you have done already...I think that you are on your way to success.

Take care,

Nancy

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
