Preferred time of day to get fill? AM or PM?

Recommended Posts

I'll be getting my first fills next month (was banded 12/17). I set up both of my appointments for 4:00 p.m. so that I only miss an hour of work (luckily doctor is only like 10 minutes away). Side note, my doctor does the first two fills within a week of each other as he said the first fill doesn't last long, and he wants you to get to the green zone as soon as possible.

If you've had fills before, which time of day do you prefer to get them done due to the after effects? Or does it really matter? Since I've not had a fill yet, I'm just wondering what to expect afterwards.

Thanks in advance for your input!

I usually get them late afternoon. I like to eat Breakfast and then do liquids after that. My surgeon does the fill and then I have liquids the rest of that day and the next morning.

Then I am back to regular foods after that, and the experimentation of the new restriction level.

I like to get them done in the morning because I get weighed before my fill. Your weight will fluctuate from morning to afternoon with meals and liquids, so if I do it in the morning, I weigh less. LOL.

I prefer morning as I'm tighter in the morning. I don't want to get a fill at night when I'm loose and then the next morning not be able to drink because I've tightened up. As I progress I may move to nights and then just accept that I can't really eat Breakfast because I'll be too tight.

I've had 4 fills so far... one in the morning and 3 in the afternoon. I haven't noticed a difference in how I felt.

so far i prefer mornings, just so that i can get up and get it over with. I do Protein Shakes in the morning anyway, so I get up go to the doc, do my weigh in and fill, then Protein shakes and liquid the rest of the day.

Going for a fill with a new doc on Feb 1, first fill since 10/2 so we will see how that works. I have had great restriction so far, but it is about gone now.

I also prefer morning because I get weighed and because I'm tighter. I'd rather experience the "most tight" I'm going to get right away instead of regretting it the next morning!

I prefer the a.m. as well but only because they weigh me and I'm at my lightest in the morning.

I prefer mornings for the same reasons stated above and also I can't eat 12hrs before a fill or drink 4hrs before and I don't like being so thrusty, I'd rather wake up and go then sit around all day wanting something. I'll be doing that today, I have a fill at 1:30 can't complain because I just called for the appointment yesterday.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
