Didn't pack lunch today - good fast food alternatives?

Recommended Posts

like others I say a small wendy's chili - it has bailed me out many, many times

I purchased a number of starkist and bumble bee lunch kits and put them in my desk at work for just such occasions.

Grab some when you are at the grocery they have tuna and chicken - my nutritionist approved them.

Good luck-

I am a fan of the Starbucks Vivanno, love the banana chocolate.

El Pollo Campero has Beans they call Campero Beans. They taste so much better than most refriend beans. But in a pinch I have ordered some refriend black beans along with a side of guacamole without chips.

When I eat chinese, I usually get a side of steamed veggies instead of rice. Panda Express has a childs dish with one entre and you can have veggies instead of rice. Yesterday I ate PF Changs lunch. I ordered their salmon lunch, hold the rice and a side of steamed spinach. It came with a bowl of egg drop Soup so I boxed the lunch for dinner.

I like the Vivanno, too. But if you don't want to drink your lunch, and are still of soft foods, something like Taco Bell's pintos & Beans is pretty good, nutritionally speaking.

I keep unjury Protein Powder in my purse. Will stop at Wendy's for chili, add some powder. Maybe a caesar salad, you can still eat salads at this point.

Taco Bell Fresco chicken burrito/taco, it's not the worst thing you could eat. Esp if you could make a REALLY bad choice later on if you're starving.

But to avoid that problem, I stock my office and car with tons of high Protein, low sugar options.

I always have shakes, cottage cheese, some high Protein Snacks and bars I bought from the doctor's office, tuna and salmon packages, low sugar yogurt, sugar free Jello, sugar free pudding, etc.

Good luck!

I didn't pack my lunch today, since we went out yesterday after church to lunch to Celebrate our pastor's birthday, and then we had leftovers (from Saturday) for dinner last night.

What would you say would be a good thing to grab from a fast food restaurant? I'm already 3.5 weeks post op and on solid foods. I'm starting to enter bandster hell, so I'm able to eat more than what I'd prefer! lol

I have the following restaurants near me:

Taco Bell

Wendy's

McDonalds

Subway (but I'm not eating bread)

pizza Hut (salad bar - no pizza)

What would you recommend?

Thanks!!!

Sorry, I just noticed that you listed the nearby restaurants. McDonald's has good salads with grilled chicken breast. Order the low cal balsamic vinegarette dressing.

Hear hear! I ate these almost daily pre-op, when I was losing about 3#/wk. Post-op, the chicken can be a bit dry, so be careful.

The basalmic will cost you about 40cal, and the salad about 250. Decent serving, though.

I didn't know Wendy's chili was so popular with others...but that is my go-to food too. I was on the way to work yesterday and realized I forgot to pack my dinner in my bag (only had my few bottles of water!) so I stopped and got a small chili. It's still pretty big, I ate half for dinner and plan to have the other half for lunch today. Yum! (it's cheap too!)

I have been in this situation several times and I work in the mall so I have a small side of teriyaki chicken from panda express with the sauce on the side and it's about a 1/2 cup serving it keeps me full for about 5 hours and I don't even finish the whole thing. I try and stay away from rice, Pasta and bread because I've found that the Protein keeps me full and I don't have to eat as much since I don't have any restriction.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
