mandze90 0 Posted January 11, 2010 Hi everyone, I am newly banded and know that medicines we can take is restricted. I have a terrible cold and really want to take some decongestants. I have on my medical alert band 'no nsaids' which I don't know wht that means. But when I read the back of the advil cold bottle it said contains NSAIDs. So I figure I can't take it? Does anyone take anything for a cold? I don't think I can handle work tomorrow like this.

AngelWhisper 0 Posted January 11, 2010 There are plenty of tylenol cold products out there. The most common NSAIDS are aleve, motrin, naproxen, advil, etc. Tylenol is not an NSAID. I like tylenol cold. Mucinex D is a good decongestant. It's located behind the pharmacy counter because it has sudaphed in it. Make sure to bring your ID with you if you go for that. Melinco 1 Posted January 11, 2010 Both Mucinex and Mucinex D (like PP said) are great for getting that gunk out of your chest. In fact, one man at the support group I went to last week said that he takes the Mucinex regularly as he gets lots of sinus drainage and that helps thin it out so in the mornings he doesn't hack up a huge loogie (sorry for TMI) that has built up in his pouch. The Mucinex makes it thin enough that it goes through the opening into the lower stomach. Plus, the surgeon actually told him to do this. Good luck with it! Colds suck no matter if you're banded or not. I hope you have a quick recovery.
AngelWhisper 0 Posted January 12, 2010 I take mucinex D fairly regularly also. I have bad drainage and it kind of wads up in my throat and ends up stuck and causes problems and I have to get unfilled to get rid of it. Mucinex D helps prevent that.
