Starting Pre Op Diet Tomorrow 1-11-10

Recommended Posts

I am getting ready for my pre op diet tomorrow..I just had my last real food today! I am supposed to do 7 days before surgery but I am going to start a few days early just to make myself feel better before going in for surgery. Any pointers to what you do if the hunger strikes and you are used to eating sweets? Wish me luck!! Mindi

My surgery is scheduled for January 22nd 2010

Hey Mindi  I'm starting my diet tomorrow as well. I've been trying to ease my way into it these past few days. I do not have a set surgery date yet, however the dr is confident that the insurance will approve this week and he says I can be in either the last week of Jan or the first week of Feb. He wants me on at least a 2 week liquid only diet, but he said 3 weeks couldn't hurt. Although in my mind i'm screaming THREE WEEKS!!! are you crazy? But I keep telling myself, I got to where I am because I ate what and when I wanted. I went to him for help, and I need to listen. I just have to keep telling myself that so I can get though this. It's a life style change so I gotta start somewhere

Hi, Good luck with the pre-op..it's tough but it's preparing you for post op which is more difficult, trust me! You can do it. For the pre-op if you are craving sweets have sugar free Jello with sugar free whipped cream. I liked that and did well with it.

I ate lots of veggie Soup. Clear broth with cooked vegetables. I ate a lot of veggies even though they told me just to eat 2 cups. I also ate egg whites if I craved Protein....but a cool shake idea if you like pumpkin and I still drink em'

1 vanilla Protein Shake

1/2 cup of pumpkin puree Libby's brand

a lot of cinnamon

Splenda

put in blender with a few ice cubes....

tastes like pumpkin pie!! Try it!! Sounds gross but is YUMMY!!!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
