I never heard of them .. one thing i do use though is tofu noodles AKA Shirataki, they are very good but they require alot of rinsing and i think a whole package has 40 calories in it.

Hungrygirl.com swears by the shiritaki noodles. They have a recipe which sound promising with Laughing Cow lite cheese. I have read that they smell and need A LOT of rinsing. Haven't been brave enough to try them.

Tracey, Try them .. just rinse them under HOT Water for like 3 mins in a spagetti strainer. ok the texture is a little wierd too but it tricks your mind into thinking your eating noodles =D

I am really curious and am waiting for a bandster to try them. Wont be me though because I am afraid after the issue I had with greenbeans. Fibrous food can be difficult for some banded people.

I was just banded so haven't tried them with a band yet but used to eat them often. They are only 40 calories and pretty good with laughing cow cheese or even in Soups. You have to rinse, rinse, and then rinse some more. I also cut them up because they are so long...will be curious to know if I can still eat them as I heard Pasta was a big no no.

These noodle things sound just awful... My Dr. said I could eat anything I wanted and what my tummy could tolerate... Even Pasta, potatoes and rice as long as I keep it to small servings. A complete meal for me is about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of food total. If I eat more than that, I am very uncomfortable for the next 4 or 5 hours. His biggest thing is portion control..

When I have those food groups they should be much smaller than the Protein and veggie of the meal... Usually about one or two tablespoon scoops at the most. This way, I don't feel deprived... Considering a serving used to be probably more than a cup just for the Rice, Pasta or potato plus all the other food like meat veggie and dessert piled onto my plate... I will add though that I have switched to the whole wheat pasta instead of enriched white flour kind... I guess each person, and Dr. will have different thoughts on these things... But I'm not gonna start eating gross food alternatives or substitutes... ... I'd rather go without altogether... I don't like yucky stuff in my mouth...

I probably have to agree with you Jennifer- if I am able to tolerate Pasta why eat a bite or two of calorieless noodles? I would probably want to eat a small amount of the real thing...only time will tell though

I haven't tried them since I've been banded but I used to eat the Shirataki noodles and the miracle noodles all the time. Just drain them and heat them in a pan for a few minutes. They are really good with some Tomato sauce and a sprinkle of parmesean cheese....and of course, all of the hungry girl recipes.

If you want to try the miracle noodles for the first time you don't have to buy a bulk of them from miraclenoodles.com, just go into any oriental food market and look for the 0 calorie noodles, they are the same thing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
