Hair loss after surgery??!!

Recommended Posts

Am I going to lose my hair? I am having pre-op jitters and everything and anything is making me worried. Going in 1/15!

Can anyone tell me about what to expect with relation to Hair loss. And also how to prevent it! Thanks

J

I have read posts where people start loosing their hair a little bit but then it stops and I also read that some people don't. I am almost 3 months out and i am not loosing any hair.. I am doing the following: I am eating 80-100 grams of Protein, taking all my Vitamins and using Nioxin Shampoo, conditioner and Scalp activating treatment.

just a little temporary unpleasantness in this process - compare to the weight loss - not a big deal

You can take Biotin, which is supposed to help stop hair loss. My hair fell out much more than usual for a while, and it freaked me out. But, it wasn't enough that anyone would notice. If you have reasonably thick hair, it probably won't show at all if you go through a bit of a Hair loss phase.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. People will be so busy staring at your cuter, smaller bee-hind to notice! Hee hee

Best,

Catherine

I'm at 7 months out, and I'm still losing more than a usual amount of hair. I've been told that I should notice it slowing down (I haven't yet) and that by a year I'll notice it's back to where it should be. There are so many theories as to why it happens, it could be any/all/none of them. I can notice how much thinner my hair is, and a few other people have (but it was very thick to begin with) as well. I get my Protein, take Biotin and use nioxin hair products, but none of it is really helping. Everyone is different and you may not have any problem at all (and one of my nurses pointed out that STRESSING  won't help one bit). I'm so happy with my weight loss (105 lbs) that I can live with the Hair loss, especially knowing it's coming back eventually.

If it happens to you at all, it's not going to all fall out, and it WILL come back

Thanks for your responses. hair loss is just one more thing I am thinking about during this whole process. Its nice to know I have people here to help and support me.

Katherine55 I have been reading your blog. Love it. Very helpful for a new comer. Thanks. I also go to the NYU practice. I am being banded by Dr. Feilding. I hope I run into you some time in the office

Being almost one year post-op, i really didnt see much Hair loss at first, but as i have gotten off my routine and not getting enough Protein, i started seeing more hair loss. Having thinner hair this is a small problem and really upset me, cause i use to have long beautiful hair. Since talking to my doc and voicing my concerns, he recommended taking pre-natal Vitamins. I haven't been taking them long but i have seen an improvement and my hair loss is down. And the doc said the pre-natal vitamins would not effect me even tho i am not prego.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
