Is this ever going to happen?

I started this journey back in Oct 08,

pretty much had all my testing done by Dec 08, come Jan 09 I loose my insurance for 9 months.

I finally get my insurance back in Sept 09 then have to redo a sleep study, I had to wait a month just to get in. I finally get the cpap machine and call the surgeons office last week, she schedules my surgery date for Feb 2010, then 2 hours later she leaves me a message telling me my heart tests are over a year old so i have to redo, mind you I have to get weighed every month and every month I have asked her "are my tests still good" she says don't worry! I am so angry right now,

now I find out the heart doc I went to, no longer takes my insurance and there are no other Heart docs near me. I now have to pay out of pocket. Hopefully it wont be to much. (I'm on unemployment)

I am trying not to have my heart set on getting this surgery, it just seems like its not meant to be.

Anyone else go through hell and back to get this done?

Is the heart test an EKG? My primary care doc did that, maybe yours can too.

If it is something more...Not sure what your insurance is, but I would think that if there are no "in network" cardiologists then they should pay for "out of network" ones to care for you.

That is how it works with my band surgeon. I have an HMO, but he is not part of the HMO. Since the HMO does not have bariatric surgeons on staff, they contract with him to provide servies.

It seems to me that if you needed cardiac care, your insurance would need to provide it somehow. Ask before you pay out of pocket.

I hope this helps.

Ugh! I'm so sorry to hear about the problems you are having- I can certainly understand your plight. I've been battling my insurance company for four months now- I think they're just having a good time sitting back saying 'dance, puppet, dance!'

I agree with the previous poster, I would see if your regular DR is able to do the cardiac testing before I'd pay out of pocket. Good luck!! Don't give up!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
