Hi everyone. I weighed myself a few days after surgery and went from 238 to 221, but I weighed myself today, ten days after surgery, and I'm up to 226. I'm barely eating anything, mostly on the liquid diet, so I don't know if there's another reason for the weight gain. Thank you.

You're healing, just had surgery. Give it time.

The same thing happened to me, don't worry it's temporary.

You are doing great!

It's just Water. Your weight can vary as much as 10lbs depending on your hydration state. Right after the surgery you were super hydrated, then you probably lost a lot in the day or two after, and now you're building it back up again. Plus, when you starved your liver during the pre-op diet you dumped a huge amount of Water weight. Now you're probably eating carbs a bit again so your liver is stocking the carbs back up. It takes 2x the water to store 1 unit of energy. Water is very heavy.

I would say anything your scale tells you within two-three weeks of the surgery should be taken with a large grain of salt.

Weigh yourself once a week first thing in the morning naked. Then put the scale away until the next week. Even a cup of coffee weighs a half pound so it is best to stay away from the scale the rest of the time.

Same thing has been happening to me! Except it has been a month since surgery for me!! Put on about 2-3 lbs since then and so far it isn't going anywhere!! I hope everyone is right and once I get a fill at the end of the month the scale will move in the right direction!! (for both of us :))

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
