Had my surgery on Jan 5, 2010

Recommended Posts

Hi: This is my first post so here goes. I am only 4 days out and just beginning to feel like my old self. I am still on the liquid phase but have been a bit afraid to try anything other than thin liquids or Protein Drinks already made. I keep looking at the list of things I can have (jello, yogurt, pudding etc.) and just don't feel ready to try them. I am beginning to get hungry but am, for whatever reason, scared it won't go down. Has anybody else had the same issues and does anybody have any ideas for me? Other than that I am really excited that the surgery is over and I am looking forward to my 'banded' life!

Thanks,

Sue

Hi, Sue! I'm right there with you. I was banded on the 7th. I've been on liquids as well, broth, tea, Water, sugar free popsicles and Jello. All of those have gone down really well. I did just try some cream Soup tonight and was a bit worried about that. It was cream of mushroom and I don't know if I had to, but I took out the little pieces of mushroom 'cuz I was afraid of what would happen if I tried. I've read too many horror stories of food getting stuck and until we really figure out how much our new little stomachs can hold I think I'm leaning towards the more cautious side of things.....for now. I see my doc on Friday and will hopefully get some more tips and instructions then.

I saw that you live in Monroe......I'm in Woodinville!! I also noticed that you had your surgery in Bellingham so I'm assuming you won't be attending any support groups up there? Evergreen Hospital, where I had my surgery, has a support group that meets every 3rd or 4th Thursday of the month. I'm going to try and attend. If you don't have a support group already lined up I'm thinking you could go to the one at Evergreen, if you were interested.

Take care and keep me updated on your progress!!

Hi Toddee: Actually I had my surgery in Everett at Northwest weight loss surgery. For some reason when I pulled up Dr. Michaelson's name it showed Bellingham. Anyways, I am with you on the cautious side. I did the same thing with my butternut squash Soup. I strained it so the little onions and small chunks were gone. I have my follow up appt. on Tuesday- so hopefully everything will go well!!

NWWLS has a support group that I will start attending this month, but thanks for the information on Evergreen's.

Good to see someone local and just starting out. Will be fun to keep track of each other.

Thanks, Sue

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
