Last 2 days of a 6 week Liquid Diet ...a light at the end of the tunnel!

Recommended Posts

Finally! I was banded on 12/14/09 and with the additional 2 weeks of liquid diet before surgery, that is SIX WEEKS now of liquids! Moving on to pureed mushies on Monday! Can't wait! I got my first fill already on 1/7/10 = 4cc ... anyone have any suggestion for a "First Real Mushie Food" to start with on Monday morning? Thanks!

Mushies are heaven, thankfully I got to start 'em 2 weeks post op. You ROCK for sticking to liquids so long! My doc doesn't allow scrambled eggs until 8 weeks post op, he's had people get stuck multiple times on them apparently. My first mushies was a bowl of bean Soup with a variety of Beans, carrots, potatoes and a few saltines in it. It was like a little piece of heaven in a bowl and I was STUFFED for the first time in a month. I lived off it for most of a week actually. I've also been doing a lot of ham spread, put a chunk of turkey ham (or regular ham but the turkey variety is better for you) in the food processor 'til it's chopped to bits, throw in a couple boiled eggs (I take out the yolks, again, carb/fat content) then mix in low fat mayo and mustard. Spread on melba toast or low fat wheat thins (my new best friend)...fills me up and loads of Protein between the ham and the egg whites and my 5 year old son LOVES it (says it looks gross but tastes yummy). Those plus string cheese and yogurt make up the majority of my diet right now. Good luck, enjoy your first good chew!

I do have a friend who is banded who cannot eat eggs. I've never had a problem.

Mashed potatoes were a favorite mushy of mine, too. With squishy peas. Yum.

You are a stronger person than I am. My doctor only made me do each phase of the diet for 2-3 days each and I still thought I was going to die.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
