Banded on the 21st...Hi Everyone

Recommended Posts

I just got banded in Mexico on the 21st. I have to say that I have never been treated so good in my entire life.

I have a question though. I got banded on a friday evening. Saturday afternoon I was resting in the hotel watching a football game and eating a little yogurt. I got full, then I got the hiccupps. I didn't feel anything pop, pull, snap or slip. However, I worried all the same. Would I feel it if my band slipped?

On Sunday night after I got home, I had some broth. My wife blended it. I ate some. Then, I got full, so I stopped eating. Then I got fuller and fuller and fuller. I thought I was going to explode. It is weird to continue to feel fuller and fuller an hour after you stop eating. I didn't feel anything slip or pop. Would I feel it is my band slips? Would I feel pain or maybe a pop when the stitches gave way?

Since then, everything seems to be normal. Its just a nagging feeling in the back of my head. I have not had any PB's, nausea, vomiting. If anyone has their 2 cents that they would like to throw in on the 2 questions above, please do.

Freebit....

Hi there,

Shouldn't you be on liquids only for at least a week after surgery? Yogurt isn't really a "liquid." I'm not saying you've hurt yourself, but you might want to take it really easy if you have any concerns or if anything feels weird. Just because your doctor says it's OK for mushy food, for example, doesn't mean you HAVE to progress as quickly as indicated. If you have any discomfort at all, ease back on what you're eating or drinking and go slooooowww.

I agree with Alexandra. Keep it liquid, (really liquid, not thick), and slow down. Take smaller sips. Your banded belly is telling you to slow down. The hiccups are considered a "soft-stop" for most folks. Listen to you body and let it heal.

And here's a good mantra for the next few weeks and months..."just because you can, doesn't mean you should". Pay attention to those signals. You will need that info as you move forward.

Congratulations!

Hi Betts. This is Joe. Wow! Small world.

I had some really mushy brocolli and cheese Soup last night. I was back to work on Tuesday. I walk about 3 miles a day a work. At first I would get realy dizzy and the world would get kinda swimmyish. I stopped the pain pills monday. Now all soreness is gone. Gas is gone. No vomiting at all. No PB's. No sticking. No restriction. I am just hungry allot. I crave Protein for some reason. The one long front incission hurts a little when I run down stairs. I just press my hand against my stomach to keep everything together. My friend went a week before me and had a bottle of wine and some bufallo wings at the dallas seahawks game the other night. We seem to both be dloing pretty good.

I did some research and it appears as though upwards slippage is followed by an inability to swallow anything. I have almost no restriction. I can swallow those big horse anitbiotic pills no problem. From that I am assuming I am doing ok and have no slippage. Going out to eat will be fun. I will always need a doggy bag I assume. The good part is I will have leftovers for a week. I am kinda wondering something though. Doesn't chewing food allot and drinking Water liquify solid food? And, if solid food can be liquified, then cant that be part of my liquid diet? 30 mins after drinking a bottle of ensure I am hungry again. Bleh. I need something more substantial than Boost or Ensure. LOL

There are tons of other Protein drinks and the more Protein you take in, the more full you will feel. I've tried powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury, which works well. You can add it to Jello, pudding or just about anything for extra protein. If you add the vanilla to orange crystal light it tastes like a dreamcicle! I just ordered Isopure online and it should be here early next week. It has 50 grams of protein per serving. It comes in like 7 different flavors. I'm hoping it tastes good. I'll keep you posted on that.

Now on to your other question...don't start on solid foods too early. You pouch isn't ready for the extra work to process the food. It's not so much the consistancy as the composition of the food. Starches take the stomach more work to process, you don't want to work it too hard too soon. Just take it easy. You will get to the next phase quickly and it will all be worth-while.

Take care and good luck. We're on this journey together. It's great we can all learn from each other's experiences.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
