Before I had my surgery i was very active (running atleast 3 miles a day, weight lifting..ect) then I had my lapband surgery and i cant even walk arround my block and when i come home from walking such a shirt distance i need to take a 3 hour nap. I have no idea whats going on, is it because of the surgery and my body still healing?, has anyone else felt like this ?

BTW: i had my surgery on december 23rd 2009

Yes, dont panic it is normal, your body is just healing. I just slept and slept the week following surgery and was worried I would not be able to go back to work the following week. It will soon wear off and your energy wil return.

Well done for being so active and the walking, what you are doing will also help in the healing process as well as the weight loss.

Good luck.

Yes! I was so surprised how much I slept after the surgery. I never take naps! It took me a couple of months to get over that extreme weakness, lack of energy funk.

Considering you just had serious surgery, have probably been on some meds that made you dopey and your body is freaking because it's not getting all that sugar/caffeine/etc, I think the fatigue is normal. I was banded on 12/30 and haven't felt like myself since. I figure it will be another week or two before my mind and body get it together.

Boy am I glad to hear that I am not the only one with no energy. I had my band placed on 12/17 and I still have to push myself to get moving. I work from home and this is really a challenge for me. All I want to do is sleep. I started going to the gym in the morning before I get started, hoping to get some energy from walking for 30-45min. However, by the time I get home and shower, I just want to sleep again. I am not even getting on a scale because I just feel so lethargic. I have decided to give my body the full six weeks or so to heal up before I even start to really work on loosing weight. On my post op visit, I had lost 17 or 18 lbs and my dr said that was good. He won't even consider a fill until after the first six weeks. He says that I should not even think about it or loosing weight either until I am completely healed and can do it the right way, so, that's what I'm gonna do. I figure by Feb 1 I should be able to be on my way.

OMG, I thought I was the only one. I got banded on 12/11. I can't even walk around the mall without getting tired out. Grocery shopping requires a nap afterwards. I work full time outside the home and when I come home I just want to sit on the couch until 9 when I can go to bed!!! I don't want to do anything on the weekends either. I'm trying to get the Protein in but having difficulties with the Fluid. Hoping this gets over quick because I just can't handle it.....

Have you been taking all of your Vitamins too? I was given a long list of supplements I would have to take after I got my surgery.

Hi Mom2cjpx4,

Vitamins make me crampy and nauseous if I take them on an empty stomach, always have.

If you are taking them on an empty stomach, that could be your problem. Also, Sams Club and costco sell liquid Vitamin, it doesn't taste terrible, but it is gentle on the stomach and very high in all the elements, more-so than most vitamins.

I had surgery on Aug 11, 2009. I have slowly gained some energy since then but still have days when I just can't function too well. I can mostly manage the morning hours of shopping, going to doctors, etc. but by early afternoon, I'm pooped! However, compared to pre-surgery life, I am on my way to a better healthier life than I was before, so it's not so bad to be slow in regaining strength & energy.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
