The Stimulus Bill and bailouts wouldn't have been necessary if big financial institutions hadn't driven the economy into the dirt. That happened on Bush's watch now Obama has to fix it. Though the Republicans criticize the Stim Bill they take credit for bringing all this good money to their states. We had eight years of party hearty under the Republicans and now we're all having to pay for it. Sure didn't stop the fat cats from getting their big bonuses though. Starting an unnecessary war didn't help our pocketbooks either. Sure helped Haliburton though. If I had a choice of whether to give food stamps to a single mother who can't afford childcare or to give millions to wealthy corporations, it's a no brainer.

You bet your sweet life it's unsustainable. And that's why you should wise up and get behind your president and congress and stop allowing those self-serving, greedy, corporate driven Republicans influence your thinking.

We didn't get in this mess because of any other kind of welfare but corporate welfare. I absolutely do not understand why you keep adding two plus two and getting seven. It is not that complicated. But it's also not as simple as Republicans want you to believe - that the reason we have such an enormous deficit is because of the help we give needy people. For you to keep acting like that is the problem only proves that you are being sucked in by the corporate political machine. :Dancing_biggrin:

{QUOTE] America is fast approaching the point where there are more people living off the government than paying for it.

The government is the only one that can stop this nasty trend of "MORE PEOPLE LIVING OFF THE GOVERNMENT THAN PAYING FOR IT" I don't care if they are giving our money to corporations or people, they need to STOP giving it away for nothing in exchange.

So, since the government is giving your hard earned dollars to corporations, why are you so happy with them? You think you'd be against all this corporate welfare that the government bestows upon those greedy people. The Constitution provides no authority for Congress to redistribute money collected via taxation, in an effort to subsidize businesses or individuals. In fact, the spending power of Congress is specifically detailed and limited. Corporate welfare breeds corruption. It seems that frequently, those that make the greatest campaign contributions receive the greatest windfalls. Like when all those lawyers contributed to Obama's campaign, and he kept tort reform out of the HC bill to "repay" them for their support.

I agree, abut I don't like either. Giving oney away is one thing when you have some to spare, but when you don't have any and you have to borrow it to give it away, then you have big problems.

It makes me sick when I hear teachers unions complaining about not getting a raise this year when they are making about $70-80,000. in CT. I say if you don't like it, you don't have to work for us! I didn't get a raise for the last 2 years because our company couldn't give anyone a raise. I still have my job and I'm thankful for it. If the government would cut the spending, we could recover. But at the rate the Obama administration spends, we will never do it.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I know, this is all very frustrating and our huge debt is scary. We do need to cut spending where we can, but not at the expense of the least fortunate of us. Unfortunately, some more deficit spending was necessary to pull us out of the hole we're in. Cutting social programs wouldn't have solved the problems created by years of irresponsible behavior by the corporations. Eventually things will get better so long as we're sure to regulate the behavior of the folks that put us in this mess.

Everytime I look at my 401k I get sick. I've been going without to squirrel away money to retire on and these finanical institutions gambled my money away in order to line their own pockets. To me they are the enemy, not the poor people. Yeah, there's a lot of people who cheat the system and there's some really wasteful spending going on. But let's not eat our own. Let's fix the real big problems that have cost us all dearly.

How about your "MORAL" buddy Glenn Beck mocking Obama(which is fine) and his 11 year old daughter, basically saying shes stupid because she asked daddy if he "plugged the hole yet" "Thats her mentality" he said, then his producer talking like he was black(thats how Rick Sanchez of CNN explained it). Im wondering, when he gave his apology did he cry? Poor guy didnt mean it!!! From what I saw, he was having alot of fun, until he got caught.

Its clear to me that he and many other reps hate blacks. Hate Obama because he's black first, then 2nd because he's dem! Heres where your a hypocrite, your "a woman of god"(born-a-nut) and you clearly stated in the past that you only listen to Beck. Guilt by association!(going back to born-again post).

I cringed when I heard that BP guy say that on the news yesterday. It's a clear illustration of what I said earlier about corporations having no conscience. BP and their cronies tried to shift the blame to each other and the right wing is trying to score political points on the blood of those poor guys who died on the rig. They're all a disgrace. :Dancing_biggrin:

My father-in-law made a good point. Bp isnt trying to stop the well from leaking, theyre trying to save the oil. Every attempt involves getting the oil into tankers above, using seperaters to seperate the oil from the water! Just like everything else(war), it revolves around oil!

I can't control what other people say or do.

Your statment that many reps hate blacks is wrong. You have no idea who hates blacks and who doesn't. I am a conservative republican, and I don't hate blacks. Most of my friends are 'right', yet none of them hate blacks. That's quite a generalization.

I don't ONLY listen to Beck. I have never said that.

Teachers deserve more than they get. We need to upgrade teacher's qualifications and pay them more. We should care more about our children in America - you know, they ones who actually are living, breathing human beings. They actually ARE our future and we can't invest too much in their education and potential for continuing this great country of ours.

You probably don't make as much as they do and you resent what they make. Which is understandable because all your arguments boil down to what's best for patty's pocketbook.

"I'm 63 and Im Tired"

by Robert A. Hall

I'm 63. Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I've worked, hard, since I was 18. Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven't called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn't inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there's no retirement in sight, and I'm tired. Very tired.

I'm tired of being told that I have to "spread the wealth" to people who don't have my work ethic. I'm tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy to earn it.

I'm tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to "keep people in their homes." Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I'm willing to help. But if they bought McMansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the left-wing Congress-critters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them with their own money.

I'm tired of being told how bad America is by left-wing millionaires like Michael Moore, George Soros and Hollywood Entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities America offers. In thirty years, if they get their way, the United States will have the economy of Zimbabwe , the freedom of the press of China , the crime and violence of Mexico , the tolerance for Christian people of Iran , and the freedom of speech of Venezuela .

I'm tired of being told that Islam is a "Religion of Peace," when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family "honor"; of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christian and Jews because they aren't "believers"; of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for "adultery"; of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur'an and Shari'a law tells them to.

I'm tired of being told that "race doesn't matter" in the post-racial world of Obama, when it's all that matters in affirmative action jobs, lower college admission and graduation standards for minorities (harming them the most), government contract set-asides, tolerance for the ghetto culture of violence and fatherless children that hurts minorities more than anyone, and in the appointment of U.S. Senators from Illinois.

I think it's very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation. I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less arrogantly of an all-knowing government.

I'm tired of a news media that thinks Bush's fundraising and inaugural expenses were obscene, but that think Obama's, at triple the cost, were wonderful; that thinks Bush exercising daily was a waste of presidential time, but Obama exercising is a great example for the public to control weight and stress; that picked over every line of Bush's military records, but never demanded that Kerry release his; that slammed Palin, with two years as governor, for being too inexperienced for VP, but touted Obama with three years as senator as potentially the best president ever. Wonder why people are dropping their subscriptions or switching to Fox News? Get a clue. I didn't vote for Bush in 2000, but the media and Kerry drove me to his camp in 2004.

I'm tired of being told that out of "tolerance for other cultures" we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and mandrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in America , while no American group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance.

I'm tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs. We also own a three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live. Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore's, and if you're greener than Gore, you're green enough.

I'm tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off? I don't think Gay people choose to be Gay, but I damn sure think druggies chose to take drugs. And I'm tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried marijuana.

I'm tired of illegal aliens being called "undocumented workers," especially the ones who aren't working, but are living on welfare or crime. What's next? Calling drug dealers, "Undocumented Pharmacists"? And, no, I'm not against Hispanics. Most of them are Catholic, and it's been a few hundred years since Catholics wanted to kill me for my religion I'm willing to fast track for citizenship any Hispanic person, who can speak English, doesn't have a criminal record and who is self-supporting without family on welfare, or who serves honorably for three years in our military.... Those are the citizens we need.

I'm tired of latte liberals and journalists, who would never wear the uniform of the Republic themselves, or let their entitlement- handicapped kids near a recruiting station, trashing our military. They and their kids can sit at home, never having to make split-second decisions under life and death circumstances, and bad mouth better people than themselves Do bad things happen in war? You bet. Do our troops sometimes misbehave? Sure. Does this compare with the atrocities that were the policy of our enemies for the last fifty years and still are? Not even close. So here's the deal. I'll let myself be subjected to all the humiliation and abuse that was heaped on terrorists at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo, and the critics can let themselves be subject to captivity by the Muslims, who tortured and beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, or the Muslims who tortured and murdered Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins in Lebanon, or the Muslims who ran the blood-spattered Al Qaeda torture rooms our troops found in Iraq, or the Muslims who cut off the heads of schoolgirls in Indonesia, because the girls were Christian. Then we'll compare notes. British and American soldiers are the only troops in history that civilians came to for help and handouts, instead of hiding from in fear.

I'm tired of people telling me that their party has a corner on virtue and the other party has a corner on corruption. Read the papers; bums are bipartisan. And I'm tired of people telling me we need bipartisanship I live in Illinois , where the "Illinois Combine" of Democrats has worked to loot the public for years. Not to mention the tax cheats in Obama's cabinet.

I'm tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I'm tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

Speaking of poor, I'm tired of hearing people with air-conditioned homes, color TVs and two cars called poor. The majority of Americans didn't have that in 1970, but we didn't know we were "poor." The poverty pimps have to keep changing the definition of poor to keep the dollars flowing.

I'm real tired of people who don't take responsibility for their lives and actions. I'm tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination or big-whatever for their problems.

Yes, I'm damn tired. But I'm also glad to be 63. Because, mostly, I'm not going to have to see the world these people are making. I'm just sorry for my granddaughter.

Robert A. Hall is a Marine Vietnam veteran who served five terms in the Massachusetts State Senate.

Teachers don't need to make more. They work 180 school days a year and get the summers off if they choose. They work half the amount of days as the regular employee. They Get awesome benefits and perks and retirement packages as well as pensions. They went to school just as long as the next guy and paid for thier tuitions just as much as the next guy. They get paid PLENTY! The NERVE of them complaining because they couldn't get their raise this year, as if they are more worthy than any other American who had to forgo their raise due to the economy! BULL! Who do they think they are?! Just because there isn't enough money for a raise they have the audacity to say the people don't "care" about the children. MY Butt! It's them that don't care about the children! If they cared, they'd do it for half of what they get. For the 'children'. Paying the teachers more has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with whether our children will be well educated or not, or whether our 'future' will be damaged if we don't because "they're the future of this great country". What a load of crap! A teacher making $40,000. a year will be the same treacher making $39,000. a year without her raise. Her paycheck does not mean that we have "invested" in our children! Give me a break!:tt2:

Teachers don't need to make more. They work 180 school days a year and get the summers off if they choose.Students go 180 days. Teachers work about 190-192 days which includes in-service and professional days. They work half the amount of days as the regular employee. The average employee works 240-245 days depending on the number of holidays they get and includes a two week vacation. How is that twice as many days as teachers? SHOW ME THE MATH. They Get awesome benefits and perks and retirement packages as well as pensions. They have negotiated retirement, sick leave and personal leave. If they cared, they'd do it for half of what they get.Well, using that logic - then all those workers who care for others from teachers, nurses, police officers, fire fighters, nursing home workers, child care workers should all do it for half of what they get if they "really cared". As I recall, pattygreen, you work in a nursing home. Do you think you should do it for half your salary because you care about the patients? Oh, wait, I know. You deserve YOUR salary because you don't make as much as teachers. Right? What a hypocrite you are. But what else is new? For the 'children'. Many teachers, especially elementary, spend a lot of their own money on classroom supplies that the school doesn't supply.

So the teachers in your state want a raise and you are angry. Why don't you ever direct your anger at the CEO's and their big bonuses? Because you don't think you are paying for their bonuses. Think again. We all are. Anyone who has money in a bank is paying for it. There's no getting around it.

But no, pattygreen, you say you're against CEO bonuses or corporate welfare but all your yapping is about the poor single mom or the teachers or some other group just trying to get by.

Why aren't you screaming about the CEO of BP who "just wants his life back". Oh, that's right, you're too busy implicating the environmentalist in the oil spill.

I just want everyone on this board to know that I am working very hard to keep the people who pattygreen would support

from getting elected. That's what we all need to do.

PG quotes,

The government is the only one that can stop this nasty trend of "MORE PEOPLE LIVING OFF THE GOVERNMENT THAN PAYING FOR IT"

-More people are on government help because they are unemployed now more than ever.

-People will get off government help when more jobs come back and the economy gets better.

-Rethuglicans act like they don't understand this fact.

-This reality is because of Rethuglican policy.

It is starting to reverse itself under Democratic policies. But this will take time, so I don't begrude people who need governmental help until the economy under democrats policy gets better.

Jealousy from the other side is palatable. We are making moves, making things happen, don't hate the democrates cause we are doing what you wish your party did or didn't. Al least we are doing something. Unlike the party of NO.

Wow, I was off 12 days. My bad! (rolling eyes)

They work half the amount of days as the regular employee. The average employee works 240-245 days depending on the number of holidays they get and includes a two week vacation. How is that twice as many days as teachers? SHOW ME THE MATH.

(Wow! Technical, aren't you?) They work less then the average employee was my point.

It depends on the school district for whom you work.

Most all get paid for the Christmas break, fall break, spring break and other holidays during the school year.

Most (but by no means all) school districts spread out the pay they earn over 10 months over all 12 months, so that they get the same paycheck all 12 months of the school year.

10 Days Sick leave is paid each year.

They get quality health insurance, full dental and

long term disability.

I didn't argue with my boss when I was told there was not enough money for raises this year, unlike the teachers did. I didn't say, "But I should get a raise cause the elderly will be less cared for if I don't. Their care depends upon my paycheck getting bigger every year." (rolling my eyes) Now did I? I didn't use the 'elderly' as an excuse for why I should get paid more as the teachers used the "children" as their excuse. NO! I will give the exact same care to my clients at the exact same rate of pay as last year. And the teachers will give the exact same teaching to their students with or without a raise!

For the 'children'. Paying the teachers more has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with whether our children will be well educated or not, or whether our 'future' will be damaged if we don't because "they're the future of this great country". Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
