Conservative VS Liberal

You're right. As I've said in previous posts, the system under bush worked very well for these people. They are the defenders of the status quo. They got tax cuts, healthcare through their employer and had a president who talked tough, started wars, etc.

But I still believe they are just phonies. They talk about spending, the deficit and healthcare. The healthcare is paid for but they talk about repealing it. Why don't they talk about repealing medicare part D - a HUGE unfunded mandate costing about a trillion $$ over 10 years? If their protests are about deficits and spending then they would be addressing this, as well as the two unfunded wars and two unfunded tax cuts to the rich. But you don't see them addressing these issues, which is why I will continue to maintain that these issues are not the real reason for the impetus of this movement. It is their hatred of Pres. Obama and it started even before he was elected.

As I have posted many times before, corporate welfare is a huge drain on our economy and the middle class has to pay for what the corporations don't. But it's easier to pick on the poor because they don't have paid lobbyists like corporate america does to make sure that their gravy train stays that way. The poor don't have a voice. Yeah, it's all about the single mother on welfare and not the big bank CEO cheat who has 5 homes and a golden parachute. rolleyes:

What do you really think would happen without this "corporate welfare" do you honestly believe the business owners would just take the hit and keep paying their employees the same amount? Or not take their companies to other countries? If you do you are flat out naive. Getting rid of the tax breaks for the huge companies would do nothing but destroy the middle class because the rich WILL make their money one way or another. Your for making things easier on the middle class, higher taxes on the upper class and on big business isn't the way that happens.

There needs to be regulations that punish companies that send jobs overseas and offer incentives for keeping jobs here. These incentives don't have to be allowing them to get off scot free from paying taxes, they just have to see that it is more to their advantage to keep jobs here than send them overseas. And Walmart just rose to the top again of the Fortune 500. Do you really think what they pay creates a middle class? They inservice their employees on what government programs they are eligible for - in essence we taxpayers are subsidizing their low paychecks from WalMart.

Additionally, with the Fortune 500 doing so well in 2009, I again ask: Where are the jobs? If this corporate welfare and tax breaks are for the purpose of helping the middle class, as you say, then where are the jobs? Everything I read says that there is more spending and buying by consumers again, these companies are doing very well, so where are all the private sector jobs?

ariscus you're the one who is naive! I can't believe that you're going to bat for corporate subsidies - you and all the wealthy lobbyists... that's some sweet company you keep!

Take away their tax breaks and see what happens to the unemployment rate. Thats all I'm saying. I, like I've said before am in favor of flat tax for everyone and everything. Have absolutely no write-offs or loop holes, maybe separate rates for income differences but not much, and just tax any income, be it from working, inheritance, investment whatever, all be taxed at the same rate, we could change our 20 thousand page tax code to a two paragraph tax code and be done with it. But mark my words, if the corporate tax breaks go away, so do the jobs, because like I said before; the rich WILL have their money.

Here's an idea for you. Get taxed on the number of children you have. Get taxed on how healthy you are.

The rich do have their money and if they have to pay their fair share and the jobs go away, that's no worse than your idea of allowing General Motors and all the banks go bust.

Oh, you mean the American way of allowing the free market to dictate what businesses survive and which fail, yeah, that would be horrible.

Oh yeah, let the economy go totally down the tubes and we can all stand in bread lines like our parents did. Makes so much sense.

We need to allow the government to step up to the plate and regulate business instead of allowing the greedy folks to run us all into the ground. Which is what they nearly did.

A funny Email I received today.

DIVORCE AGREEMENT

Dear American liberals, leftists, social progressives, socialists, Marxists and Obama supporters, et al:

We have stuck together since the late 1950's for the sake of the kids, but the whole of this latest election process has made me realize that I want a divorce.... I know we tolerated each other for many years for the sake of future generations, but sadly, this relationship has clearly run its course.

Our two ideological sides of America cannot and will not ever agree on what is right for us all, so let's just end it on friendly terms. We can smile and chalk it up to irreconcilable differences and go our own way.

Here is a model separation agreement:

Our two groups can equitably divide up the country by landmass each taking a similar portion. That will be the difficult part, but I am sure our two sides can come to a friendly agreement. After that, it should be relatively easy! Our respective representatives can effortlessly divide other assets since both sides have such distinct and disparate tastes.

We don't like redistributive taxes so you can keep them. You are welcome to the liberal judges and the ACLU. Since you hate guns and war, we'll take our firearms, the cops, the NRA and the military. We'll take the nasty, smelly oil industry and you can go with wind, solar and biodiesel. You can keep Oprah, Michael Moore and Rosie O'Donnell (You are, however, responsible for finding a bio-diesel vehicle big enough to move all three of them).

We'll keep capitalism, greedy corporations, parmaceutical companies, Wal-Mart and Wall Street. You can have your beloved lifelong welfare dwellers, food stamps, homeless, homeboys, hippies, druggies and illegal aliens. We'll keep the hot Alaskan hockey moms, greedy CEO's and rednecks. We'll keep the Bibles and give you NBC and Hollywood .

You can make nice with Iran and Palestine and we'll retain the right to invade and hammer places that threaten us. You can have the peaceniks and war protesters. When our allies or our way of life are under assault, we'll help provide them security.

We'll keep our Judeo-Christian values.. You are welcome to Islam, Scientology, Humanism, political correctness and Shirley McClain. You can also have the U.N.. but we will no longer be paying the bill.

We'll keep the SUV's, pickup trucks and oversized luxury cars. You can take every Subaru station wagon you can find.

You can give everyone healthcare if you can find any practicing doctors. We'll continue to believe healthcare is a luxury and not a right. We'll keep The Battle Hymn of the Republic and the National Anthem. I'm sure you'll be happy to substitute Imagine, I'd Like to Teach the World to Sing, Kum BA Ya or We Are the World.

We'll practice trickle down economics and you can continue to give trickle up poverty your best shot.

Since it often so offends you, we'll keep our history, our name and our flag.

Would you agree to this? If so, please pass it along to other like minded liberal and conservative patriots and if you do not agree, just hit delete. In the spirit of friendly parting, I'll bet you Answer which one of us will need whose help in 15 years.

Sincerely,

John J. Wall

Law Student and an American

P. S. Also, please take Ted Turner, Sean Penn, Martin Sheen, Barbara Streisand, & Jane Fonda with you.

P. S. S. And you won't have to press 1 for English when you call our country.

Your anti-American post is very offensive to me.

To follow up on PG's hilarious email: Add to the list of what the right wing extremists can keep:

-all the hoods and the KKK who wears them

-the anti-government militia who want to kill those cops you're keeping.

-Timothy McVeigh

-the segregated south

-lynchings

-women who aren't allowed to vote

-pay inequality for the sexes

-child labor (aren't your kids lazy anyway?)

-80 hour work weeks (I mean what else are you going to do with your time other than adjust the gun rack on your truck?)

-no minimum wage (is that Walmart I hear clapping?)

-no workplace safety (does Massey mine sound good?)

-all the tainted drugs, food, Water and polluted air you can take, eat and breathe

-no healthcare (you can self-medicate with tainted drugs or go to your local redneck bar to dull the pain)

-no social security or medicare (grandma's coming to live with you, so you get to keep her, too)

-confederate flag

-and george bush, limbaugh, beck, hannity, rove and the dominatrix of the nut-teas - Sarah Palin with her penchant for leather (she just wants to hurt ya, you betcha)

See, she cant even deny that she is Anti-American.

Exactly. And what do we really care? We know we're on the right side. We stand with the american people, not wall street. We care about people and want a country that doesn't turn it's back to those in need. That's what third world countries and those with dictators do and if those here don't like our safety nets - then go live in one of those countries. Taking care of the least among us is what makes us great and separates us from the not so great.

And what hypocrites they are to think that everything they have they got all by themselves, they deserve it, no one else helped them, least of all the government, when they have no idea of all the good things that they enjoy everyday courtesy of our government.

Phonies, hypocrites one and all.

patty didn't write it. She really isn't all that clever.

But a law student did, supposedly. And that explains a whole lot, right? I could tell a bunch of "lawyers are sharks that feed on people" jokes but I don't think that's necessary. We all read it for ourselves.

And that thinking is the reason for the division in this country. That kind of radical, hateful, selfish mindset that keeps us from negotiating or compromising or doing anything at all for the good of the country.

So thanks for sharing patty. Now go resume your regularly scheduled right wing programming.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
