Reassurance from Slow Starter

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone-

I've not really lost in the past 3 months since my initial 21lbs pre-op and right after the surgery and I was hoping for some success stories from people that had the same thing. I've only had 2 fills and no restriction so I'm hoping others had the same thing and can reassure me that they did okay.

Thanks-

I'm sure you will do okay. The first couple of months are hard if you have no restriction. You're pretty much on your own in trying to lose the weight during that period. Keep getting your fills until you feel restriction, follow the band rules, and really try to eat healthier and get active.

Your band will help you, but you also have to work with it to get the best results. Sounds like dieting I know, but in the beginning it is really the best way to get a head start in the process until your doc gets you at the correct restriction.

I have been a pretty slow loser. I lost about 33 pounds in the first 4-5 months. I had problems with reflux and had to get unfilled, then we visited with family for a month befre moving to another state. I went 3 months without being able to see a doctor to get adjustments. Once I found a doctor up here in MT and was able to get to a good place, I have been losing weight at a pretty good pace. I seem to lose it in spurts, but I think that is my bodies way of dealing with the lose. In Novemeber I lost 14lbs. in 3 weeks, but then I stayed the same for 2 weeks, then went through another spurt and lost 10 in 2 weeks.

Oh, it took me about 5 fills (2 unfills in there too), to get to what I believe is my sweet spot.

I, personally, believe that our bodies need time to adjust to everything that is going on with it. Surgery is a big thing and so is weight loss.

Hope you get the restriction you need soon!

I had my surgery in October and I haven't lost anything yet. I got my third fill on Monday so I now have 7.5cc in a 14cc band and I'm starting to get a hint of restriction. I think my next fill on the 18th will be the one to get things going.

After the insanity of losing 31lbs in 30 days on the pre-op diet, having my hair fall out in chunks and my body generally telling me it was not pleased with what I had done to it, I'm sort of glad that I'm a slow starter post-op. My body has a bit more time to normalize again before taking a second roller coaster ride of weight loss.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
