how much 1/2 cup or more should our meals consist of?

Recommended Posts

I've been reading LBT and have noticed that some people are putting their meal plans up here.

For example, I will see 4 oz. of meat and then 1/2 cup of veggies for dinner.< /p>

I was under the impression that our TOTAL amount of food for a meal should only be 1/2 cup.

Could someone please clear this up for me?

I don't want to eat too much, but I have noticed that 1/2 cup of total food per meal is just NOT doing it for me.

I am only 9 days out... but I have no fill in my band.

I posted a thread previously about eating too much throughout the day... and I got some great answers....

I just want to clear up the confusion about HOW MUCH a meal is.

Thanks everyone!

I was told it was one cup total for 3 meals a day and 2 Protein shakes as needed between meals. I was banded on Monday and have been eating as I feel hungery. So I probably have 1/2 cup of something every few hours. Eating a whole cup of food right now in one sitting is too much for me. I do agree that I feel hungery every few hours so I eat something small. I also try and get in at least two Protein Shakes a day to help with the Protein and to get some calories. Because broth and Jello do not have a lot of calories.

I don't know if that helps for not but I have lost 5 lbs since Monday.

I really think it depends on how large your pouch ends up being and how tight you are.

I am pretty tight right now and I think my pouch must be small. I can only eat 1/2 cup at a time. If I am eating very thin Soup or something I could eat more than 1/2 cup. Solids, like meat and vegies, no way can I eat more than 1/2 c.

I've seen the 1/2 C/meal posts too and I challenge the fact that anyone can get in all their nutrition needs with SOLIDS (like we're supposed to eat with the band, but everyone needs to do what their doc says and what works for them) in all the food groups; not just Protein, but fruit, veg., dairy, etc. They may be able to get in enough calories with 1/2C (ie. high cal peanut butter), but I've never seen anyone who meets all the nutritions goals eating 1/2C.

My NUT said up to 1 1/2C lean solids (with target amounts for each food group) for 3 meals a day, no Snacks.

I eat 1/2 C at Breakfast and generally 3/4-1.25 C (so usually about 1 C) for the other two meals and I even have a hard time getting in all the fruit and sometimes veggies (protein is easy for me).

I was banded 11/17/09 and lost 5 before surgery and only 6 since surgery. It is hard. I have only had one fill - so looking forward to getting my second one.

I started with a BMI of 38 and when I see people on here dropping 30 pounds before surgery - I am happy for them- but a little down. I have a history of PCOS and have a hard time loosing anyway. Just hoping I can get this second fill next week and get on with this journey.

Every doctor's requirement is different. Mine says 1 cup at each meal.

I didn't worry about it too much until I had restriction. I just ate what I felt normal people would eat...and as much. I didn't then...and still don't...see the point in telling someone they should be eating as if they have restriction when they won't have the help of that restriction, but then that's just me.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
